Falcons Put the Clamps on Miami, 3-0
October 18, 2019 | Women's Soccer
BGSU holds the RedHawks without a shot on goal or a corner kick
Freshman Kennedy White and senior Hannah Dolfuss also found the back of the net for the Falcons (9-4-2, 7-0-0 MAC). White doubled BGSU's lead with just under an hour gone, then had the primary assist on the Dolfuss goal in the 77th minute.
The Falcons (9-4-2 overall) had lopsided advantages in numerous statistical categories, including total shot attempts (33-3), shots on goal (14-0) and corner kicks (12-0). A total of 21 different players saw action for BGSU, with 14 players firing at least one shot attempt and nine different Falcons putting a shot on frame.
QUOTING COACH MATT FANNON
"We were slow and lethargic in the first half, and were fortunate for an excellent strike to give us the lead at halftime. In the second half we were back to the level we expect consistently, and were able to put the game to bed."

THE MAC RACE
• With four matches to go in the regular-season, Bowling Green remains in first place in the Mid-American Conference standings. The Falcons are six points ahead of second-place Ball State and eight points up on third-place Western Michigan. Teams earn three points for a win and one for a tie.
• BGSU's win over Miami, combined with other results from around the conference on Friday, means the Falcons have clinched a berth in the MAC Tournament. The top eight teams in the final league standings will qualify for the conference tourney.
NOTE OF THE NIGHT: A 7-0 START
• BGSU is 7-0-0 in the MAC for just the second time in school history, and the second time in as many years.
• Last year's edition of the Falcons got off to a school-record 8-0-0 start in MAC play, winning the league regular-season crown with a 10-1-0 record.
• Only three BGSU teams have won as many as three matches to begin the conference campaign. The 2000 Falcons won three road matches, then dropped the next three contests, all at home, before rebounding to advance all the way to the championship match of the MAC Tournament.

Alrighty then ... it's that time. Let's GO TO THE VIDEOTAPE‼️

ALEXIS MILLER got us on the board late in the first half, with a blast from a long way away! pic.twitter.com/qcAKlE4TYv

• 3' | The Falcons fired four shots in quick succession after a corner kick by senior Maureen Kennedy, but all four were blocked by Miami defenders.
• 11' | After taking a pass from sophomore Mackenzie Reuber, senior Hannah Dolfuss hit a shot that was deflected out of play by a RedHawk. Off of that corner kick, the ball was deflected to freshman Lena Kovar, but Kovar's quick turnaround shot whizzed over the crossbar from 10 yards out.
• 19' | Dolfuss stole the ball from a Miami player and hit a pass to redshirt junior Nikki Cox, but Cox's ensuing shot from the left side was saved by MU goalkeeper Izzie Vaccari.
• 23' | After working a combination play with fellow sophomore Sarah Allen, Reuber fired a shot that was blocked. Kennedy put her follow try on frame from outside the box, but Vaccari made the save.
• 26' | Senior Chelsee Washington took a pass from Nikki Cox and slid the ball into the path of sophomore Alexis Miller just outside the 18-yard line. Miller's hard shot was deflected out of play for a corner kick.
• 28' | Off of another BG corner kick, the ball was played back to junior Nikhita Jacob, but her shot was stopped.
• 29' | BG won the ball right back, and Washington made a run and played a through ball to freshman Kennedy White. White raced into the box and poked the ball away from the onrushing Vaccari. From the right side of the area, White sent a return pass to Washington, but Washington's hard shot went wide left.
• 38' | GOAL | After a throw-in by freshman Jasmijn Dijsselhof, sophomore Lynsey Spotts played a pass to Miller. Miller, heading from left to right, hit a hard shot from distance that eluded the diving Vaccari.
• 42' | After a Miami foul, Kennedy put a free kick on target, but Vaccari was able to tip the ball over the bar with a leaping effort for her fifth save of the half.
• 43' | As the clock ticked down toward the two-minute mark, a diagonal ball by freshman Makenzie Ortman sailed into the box, and was mere inches out of the reach of onrushing freshman Katie Cox.

SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS
• 48'  | Nikki Cox took a Dijsselhoff pass and hit a shot toward goal, but Vaccari made the stop.
• 53' | Washington made a long run downfield, heading all the way into the box and hitting a shot from the right side, but it was saved.
• 55' | Dijsselhof and Washington worked a nifty combination play, and Dijsselhof played a pass to Nikki Cox, but her shot was stopped by Vaccari.
• 60' | GOAL | Kennedy hit a hard free kick from outside the box that Vaccari parried on the short-hop. However, multiple Falcons were charging into the six-yard box, with White the first player to get there. She blasted the rebound into the upper half of the net from close range to double BG's lead.
• 68' | Arguably Miami's best chance of the night came on a shot by Olivia Winnett almost exactly halfway through the second half, but the effort went just over the crossbar.
• 73' | Washington made another long run into the box and hit a shot that was blocked over the end line for a corner kick. Off of that Dijsselhof corner, Washington's header at the far post went just wide.
• 77' | GOAL | Washington played a low pass forward to White, who – while running from right to left along the 18-yard line – spun and hit a nifty one-timer back the way from which she had come. The ball rolled into the path of the charging Dolfuss, and the senior made no mistake, hitting her shot from approximately 19 yards out into the far corner of the net.
