Bowling Green Rises Back To No. 17 In USCHO Poll
October 21, 2019 | Ice Hockey
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University hockey team has risen back to No. 17 in this week's official USCHO poll. This after the Falcons swept (then No. 14) Western Michigan in a home-and-home series this past weekend (Oct. 18-19). This is the highest BGSU has been ranked in the poll since Oct. 7 when they were ranked No. 17. Western Michigan fell to No. 18 in the poll, just behind the Falcons.
Bowling Green secured a 2-1 victory in their home opener on Friday (Oct. 18) night against the Broncos. The first period remained scoreless with many scrums after the whistle throughout the game. Frederic Letourneau found the back of the net on a power play deflecting in through the five hole late in the second period. WMU tied the game late in the third period before Max Johnson recorded the game-winning goal on the power play.
The Orange and Brown then traveled to Kalamazoo to play the second game of the series on Saturday (Oct. 19) night, sweeping WMU with another 2-1 final. Western scored first in the contest early in the second period before Alec Rauhauser answered for the Falcons about ten minutes later. The game remained tied at one through regulation. Cameron Wright found the back of the net for BGSU just 11 seconds into overtime to put away the Broncos.
Bowling Green opens their WCHA schedule this weekend when they host rival Michigan Tech for a two game series. The games will be this Friday (Oct. 25) and Saturday (Oct. 26) in Slater Family Ice Arena at 7:07 PM.
