MATT FANNON INTERVIEW (Oct. 22, 2019)
FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• BGSU is 7-1-0 in the MAC after suffering a 1-0, double-overtime loss to Ball State on Sunday (Oct. 20). It marked BGSU's first loss to a conference opponent in 367 days, and the Falcons' first home loss vs. a MAC foe in over two years.
• Only two BGSU teams have ever won four or more consecutive matches to begin the conference schedule. Last year's team got off to a school-record 8-0-0 start in MAC play, winning the league regular-season crown with a 10-1-0 record. This year, BG was 7-0-0 before Sunday's setback to the Cardinals.
• Despite that loss, the Falcons have a record of 19-2-1 against the MAC (both regular-season and tournament matches) since the start of the 2018 season.
• BGSU is now 17-2-1 in all home matches (again, both regular-season and tournament contests) against MAC opposition since Matt Fannon came to BG prior to the 2017 season. The Falcons' only previous home loss to a conference foe in that stretch also came to BSU, in Fannon's first-ever MAC matchup (Sept. 22, 2017). BG is 0-2-1 vs. the Cardinals and 17-0-0 vs. all other conference schools at Cochrane Stadium during that time.
• BGSU is 7-1-0 in MAC road matches since the start of the 2018 season, and the Falcons have outscored the opponents, 21-5, in those eight games.

THE OPPONENTS
• Northern Illinois enters Thursday's BGSU match with an overall record of 2-11-2, and the Huskies are 0-7-1 in MAC play. NIU dropped a pair of road matches last weekend, falling to Buffalo and Akron. The prior weekend, the Huskies lost by a single goal at Ball State (1-0) before battling Miami to a 1-1, double-overtime draw in DeKalb. Northern is 0-4-2 at home and 2-7-0 on the road this year to date. In MAC play, the Huskies are 0-2-1 at the NIU Soccer Complex and 0-5-0 away from home. Trudy Quidzinski leads the team with four goals and nine points, while Julia Neary has a pair of goals and four points. Megan Donnally has played in nine matches in goal, and has 72 saves and a 1.72 GAA. Julia Lentz has seen action in seven games, and has 42 saves, one shutout and a GAA of 2.88. Head coach Julie Colhoff, in her second season, welcomed back 17 players from last season's roster. Last year, the Huskies finished with records of 2-17-0 overall and 1-10-0 in the MAC.
• Western Michigan is 6-8-1 on the year, and the Broncos are 4-3-1 in the MAC heading into a Thursday home match vs. Toledo. Last weekend, Western split a pair of 2-1 outcomes on the road, beating Akron but falling to Buffalo. The Broncos are 2-4-1 at home and 4-4-0 on the road this season to date. In MAC action, Western is 1-1-1 at the WMU Soccer Complex and 3-2-0 at theoretically hostile venues. Morgan Otteson has team-high totals of nine goals and 21 points this year, while Bailey Korhorn and Grace Labadie have 14 and 10 points, respectively. Korhorn has five goals, while Labadie has a team-high six assists. In goal, Maggie Rogers has started 14 of the 15 matches, and has 76 saves and a 1.49 GAA on the season. Sammy Boateng is the interim head coach of the Broncos in 2019. Last year's team went 14-7-0 overall and 7-4-0 in the conference.
THE SERIES
• BGSU and Northern Illinois are tied, 10-10-3, in the all-time series, but the Falcons have won the last three meetings, including a 3-0 decision at Cochrane Stadium last season and a 2-1 verdict in DeKalb two years ago. Mackenzie Reuber, Maureen Kennedy and Sarah Allen all scored goals in the 2018 meeting. BGSU is 5-6-1 in home matches, 5-3-2 on the road and 0-1-0 in neutral-site contests vs. the Huskies through the years.
• The Falcons trail Western Michigan, 17-8-1, in that series, but BGSU picked up a 2-0 victory at Cochrane last season to snap a nine-match WMU series winning streak. Last year's contest was scoreless until Chelsee Washington's goal with under 13 minutes to go. Two years ago, in the teams' last meeting in Kalamazoo, WMU picked up a 2-1 win. Last year's victory was BG's first over the Broncos since a quarterfinal-round victory in the 2008 MAC Tournament, and the Falcons are looking to beat the Broncos in Kalamazoo for the first time since earlier in that 2008 season. BG is 5-6-1 at home, 1-11-0 on the road and 2-0-0 in neutral-site matchups with Western.
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the WMU match, the Falcons will wrap up the regular-season schedule with a matchup at Toledo on Thursday, Oct. 31. That match is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Paul Hotmer Field.
• The MAC Tournament begins with quarterfinal-round matches on Sunday, Nov. 3, at campus sites. The Falcons have clinched a berth in the eight-team tourney, but the opponent and site for BG's quarterfinal contest has yet to be determined.
