The Bowling Green State University men's and women's soccer programs each have earned a national academic honor. Both teams have received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award, the USC office announced Thursday (Oct. 3).
The USC Team Academic Award is given to soccer programs that have achieved a minimum team grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
The men's soccer Falcons of head coach Eric Nichols had a team GPA of 3.32 in the 2018-19 academic year. Nichols' team was recognized for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons, and the men's soccer Falcons made the list for the 10th time overall.
Head coach Matt Fannon's women's soccer program had a team GPA of 3.60 in 2018-19. The women's soccer Falcons earn the award for the third-straight season and the eighth time overall.
A total of 989Â college soccer teams (345Â men, 644Â women) across all divisions earned the Team Academic Award. BGSU was one of 255 schools who had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients.
College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2018-19 academic year.
