Senior earns conference weekly honor for the fourth time in her career
Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Maureen Kennedy has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon (Oct. 8). Kennedy earns the honor for the first time this season and the fourth time in her BGSU career.
Additionally, Kennedy earned honorable mention on the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week.
Kennedy, a native of Cypress, Calif. (Los Alamitos H.S.), made major contributions at both ends of the field as the Falcons won two more matches to remain undefeated in the MAC. Kennedy led BGSU with four points on the weekend, and was involved in the scoring of the game-winning goal in both matches.
The senior had the primary assist on Nikhita Jacob's GWG in a 3-1 victory at Kent State Friday night (Oct. 4). Then, on Sunday (Oct. 6), Kennedy had a goal and an assist less than two minutes apart in a 3-1 win at Ohio. She had an assist on Chelsee Washington's game-opening goal, then scored a goal of her own just 1:50 later. At the other end of the field, Kennedy blocked an Ohio shot on the goal line for a 'team save' in the second half.
Kennedy, the 2018 MAC Defensive Player of the Year, now has career totals of 14 goals, 27 assists and 55 points as a Falcon. She sits in 12th place on the career goals list, and is seventh in points. Kennedy ranks second in career assists, and is just six shy of tying the school record in that category. She now has six GWG as a Falcon, deadlocking her for seventh in school history.
This season, Kennedy ranks second on the team in both goals (four) and points (11), and is third on the Falcons with three assists.
The Falcons are home for three of the next four matches, beginning with a Thursday (Oct. 10) contest vs. Central Michigan University. That match will begin at 7:00 p.m., and admission to all BGSU regular-season home soccer matches is free.
