Fralick, Falcons Sign Six to National Letters of Intent
November 15, 2019 | Women's Basketball
Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Robyn Fralick has announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Jasmine Clerkley (Okemos, Mich.), Sophie Dziekan (Brighton, Mich.), Lexi Fleming (Cincinnati, Ohio), Nyla Hampton (Huber Heights, Ohio), Olivia Hill (Palatine, Ill.) and Kenzie Lewis (Williamston, Mich.) will join the Falcon program for the 2020-21 academic year.
"I am so glad this day is here," said Fralick. "My staff and I have been looking forward to this for a while. We put a lot of thought and time into this recruiting class. We had time to develop genuine relationships with each one of these student-athletes and their families. They whole-heartedly believe in the vision, culture and tradition of Bowling Green Women's Basketball and we are elated to have them join our family."
Clerkley, a 5-11 forward, is a senior at Okemos H.S. She has been an all-conference (CAAC Blue) performer in each of her first three seasons, and was named to the Associated Press All-State First Team as a sophomore, before earning honorable mention as a junior. Last year, she averaged a double-double, with 15 points and 11 rebounds per game, Clerkley helped the Chieftains to a district championship in 2017-18, and was named to BCAM's (Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan) Best in Class A. In addition to basketball, she competes in track and field, and has earned all-conference in each of her first three seasons. She was the 2019 state champion in the shot put.
Dziekan, a 6-2 forward, currently attends Brighton H.S. She averaged 13.5 and 8.2 boards per game last season, blocking 46 shots, and has helped the Bulldogs to a record of 49-17 in her first three years. Dziekan has been named team MVP in each of the last two seasons, and was also named to the all-conference (KLAA) team as both a sophomore and a junior. She was named one of Livingston County's top-five players in each of those two years, and was a Detroit Free Press Sports Awards girls basketball player-of-the-year nominee.
Fleming, a 5-5 guard, is a senior at Mercy McAuley H.S. She averaged 13.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.2 steals per game last season for the Wolves, earning All-Ohio Third-Team honors. A two-time all-league (Girls Greater Catholic League) selection, she also earned first-team all-district accolades, and twice was named player of the week by Cincinnati.com. Fleming's teams have posted an overall record of 63-12 over her first three seasons.
Hampton, a 5-7 guard, attends Wayne H.S. A two-time all-league (Greater Western Ohio Conference) selection, Hampton averaged 10.2 points, 3.7 boards, 3.5 steals and 3.7 assists per contest a year ago, and shot better than 50 percent (51.6%) from beyond the three-point line. She has helped the Warriors to a record of 54-20 over her first three seasons. Hampton was a high-school teammate of current BGSU women's basketball freshman Olivia Trice.
Hill, a 6-0 forward, is in her senior year at Fremd H.S. where she earned Illinois Basketball Coaches Association All State Special Mention a year ago. She averaged 10 points, six rebounds and three assists per game last season, and earned all-area (Northwest) and all-conference (MSL) honors. Hill has led the Vikings to a combined record of 75-26 in her first three years. A co-captain of her high-school team, she has been named Daily Herald Player of the Week. Hill was a US Junior Nationals 17U National Championship All Star.
Lewis, a 5-10 guard, attends Williamston H.S., where she was named to the all-state first team by both the Associated Press and the Detroit Free Press last year. She averaged 16 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals in her junior year, and was a Lansing State Journal player-of-the-year finalist. Lewis, an all-league (CAAC) first-teamer, was a unanimous Captains Choice Academic All-State selection. She was named to the Detroit Free Press Dream Team, and also was a DFS Sports Awards girls basketball player-of-the-year nominee. Lewis has helped the Hornets to a record of 59-10 in her career to date.
"The six individuals in this class all have similar characteristics: they are winners, they are competitors, they have a high IQ and they have an ability to play multiple positions all over the court," said Fralick. "As we continue to play more aggressive offensively and defensively, they will fit very well into that style.
"I am excited to have Lexi, Nyla, Kenzie, Sophie, Olivia and Jasmine join us!"
The 2019-20 Falcons are 2-0 on the young season, heading into Monday's (Nov. 18) home game vs. Notre Dame College. That game will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
