TORONTO, Ont. – Former Head Coach of the Bowling Green State University hockey program Jerry York will be formally inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday (Nov. 18) evening. The Induction Celebration in Toronto will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will air live on NHL Network in the U.S. and TSN2 in Canada.
"It's awesome that Coach York, who spent a considerable amount of time here, and did wonderful things as the Head Coach at Bowling Green State University is going to be inducted into the Hockey Hall Of Fame," said current Head Coach Ty Eigner. "His connection with Bowling Green is really cool. For me personally to have had the opportunity to play for Jerry, it's something that I'm incredibly appreciative of, and I really couldn't be happier for him. He's the gold standard as far as coaching college hockey goes. What he's done in the game will never be done again by anybody."
Coach York was at the helm of the Orange and Brown from 1979 to 1994. In his 15 seasons at Bowling Green, York led his teams to nine 20-win seasons, four Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) regular season titles, one CCHA tournament title, six NCAA tournament appearances, and the 1984 national championship. He is the winningest Coach in Bowling Green hockey program history with an all-time record of 342-248-31.
Prior to BGSU, York was an assistant coach at Clarkson University. Following his time at Bowling Green, he went on to become head coach at his alma mater Boston College where he has won four more national championships. Jerry York is the winningest active coach in NCAA hockey history. With 1,074 wins, he leads the all-time list by a Division 1 coach.
