Matt Fannon Named Head Coach at Iowa State
December 17, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Bowling Green State University women's soccer coach Matt Fannon has announced his resignation to accept the head coaching position at Iowa State University.
"I'd like to thank Matt for his leadership, time and effort at Bowling Green," said BGSU director of athletics Bob Moosbrugger. "With three consecutive MAC Coach-of-the-Year awards and back-to-back MAC championships, Matt obviously did tremendous things here at BGSU."
In three seasons at the BGSU helm, Fannon guided the Falcons to records of 41-18-7 overall, 26-6-1 in Mid-American Conference regular-season matches and 32-7-3 in all games vs. conference foes.
The Falcons advanced to the championship match of the MAC Tournament before losing in overtime in 2017, Fannon's first season at the BGSU helm. Then, the Orange and Brown won the MAC's regular-season and tourney titles in both 2018 and '19.
The 2018 club finished with a 14-5-3 overall mark and a 10-1-0 league ledger. BGSU tied the school record for overall victories and set a new  mark for conference wins.
In 2019, the Falcons again posted 14 total wins including 10 conference regular-season victories. BGSU (14-6-3, 10-1-0 in '19) became the first program in MAC history to win 10 conference matches in back-to-back seasons.
Fannon was named the MAC Coach of the Year in each of his three seasons at the BG helm. He is the first coach in MAC women's soccer history to be named MAC Coach of the Year in three consecutive seasons.
"We wish the very best for Matt, (wife) Julie, (and daughters) Rowen and Mason," said Moosbrugger. "The standard and foundation for BGSU women's soccer has been set, and we will work to hire an individual who will be able to build upon our successes."
