Cecil Named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Junior earns her second conference weekly award in as many days
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Andrea Cecil has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 20). For Cecil, a junior, it marks her second honor from the league office in as many days.
On Tuesday morning, Cecil was named the MAC's Player of the Week for the East Division.
Cecil, a native of Oak Harbor, Ohio (Oak Harbor H.S.), led the Falcons in scoring and rebounding last week, with 21.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. She shot 68.2% from the field, going 15-for-22, and hit 4-of-6 three-pointers (66.7%). Cecil also averaged 3.0 assists per game and shot 81.8% (9-for-11) from the free-throw line.
On Wednesday (Feb. 13), Cecil led the Falcons and tied for game honors with 26 points as the Falcons led from wire to wire en route to an upset win over Buffalo, 78-72, at the Stroh Center. She shot 10-for-15 from the field, and had seven assists and a career-high five assists in addition to those 26 points.
Then, On Saturday (Feb. 16), Cecil battled foul trouble, but had 17 points in just 20 minutes vs. Kent State. She added six rebounds, and went 5-for-7 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the stripe. Cecil drew a foul and made a pair of pressure-packed free throws to tie the game at 73-73 with 16.7 seconds to go. She had eight points in the fourth period as BG battled back from a 13-point deficit with under six minutes left in the game to tie the score, before KSU hit two late free throws to take the lead.
On the season, Cecil is averaging a team-leading 15.3 points along with 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, and she is shooting 43.2% from the arc, having made 48 three-pointers in 111 attempts. She is also shooting 87.5% (63-for-72) from the free-throw line. Cecil is ranked 21st in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage and 25th in the country in free-throw accuracy.
In the classroom, Cecil has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.447 as an Exercise Science major.
Cecil, head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will face defending MAC champion Central Michigan tonight (Wednesday, Feb. 20), as BGSU hosts an NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" opponent for the second-straight week. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
