NEXT HOME GAME
The Falcons will host Akron next Wednesday night, Feb. 27. It will be the team's annual "Pink Game" in support of breast cancer awareness, and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game.
Hudson, CMU's all-time leader in points and assists, had game-high totals in those categories, with 24 and nine, respectively.
Frost, her school's career rebounding leader, had 21 points and 20 rebounds for her 22nd double-double of the season. She has had at least 20 points and 20 boards four times in the last six games and five times in MAC play this season.
Jahari Smith had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Chippewas, while DePaul transfer Micaela Kelly added 10 points, six boards, six assists and a game-high four steals.
For the Falcons, junior Andrea Cecil and freshman Morgan McMillen each scored 14 points. Cecil was 6-for-10 from the field and added five rebounds, while McMillen hit three of her team's four three-pointers and had a team-leading six boards.
GOOD START
The Falcons broke out to an early 11-4 lead. Cecil had four of the team's first six points, banking home a shot on the game's first possession, and hitting a pair of free throws for a 6-2 lead three minutes in.
Senior Sydney Lambert hit a pull-up jumper during that stretch, and after senior Maddie Cole scored off of freshman Kadie Hempfling's 'extra pass,' the home team had an 8-2 lead.
CMU got a pair of Smith free throws, but McMillen hit a three-pointer from the top of the arc for the aforementioned 11-4 advantage.
EMPHATIC RESPONSE
Seconds after that McMillen triple, however, Hudson came downcourt and hit a three-pointer from well beyond the line. That shot began an 18-0 run for the Chippewas.
The visitors scored a pair of baskets off of Kelly steals, with the speedy guard scoring in transition for the first bucket, and Maddie Watters finding Frost for a three-ball and a 12-11 CMU lead.
Smith hit a layup, and two more Kelly buckets made it an 18-11 game and prompted a BG timeout with 3:23 left in the first quarter.
However, the visitors got four more points, on a Smith layup and a pair of Watters free throws, before Cecil's layup snapped BG's scoreless drought.
BG was still within single digits after another Cecil bucket, but another long three-pointer by Hudson began a quick 7-2 run that put CMU ahead by a 31-17 count after one period.
BACK TO SINGLE DIGITS, BRIEFLY
The Falcons got back within nine points once again early in the second quarter. After McMillen opend the scoring with a three-pointer, the freshman found sophomore Angela Perry for an easy layup, cutting Central's lead to 31-22.
The lead stayed in the low teams for over half of the quarter, but after McMillen knocked down another long-distance shot at the 3:40 mark, Hudson's deep three began an 11-0 run for the Chippewas. Frost capped that run with a short-corner jumper with just over a minute left in the half, and CMU led, 52-28.
FIRED UP CHIPS
McMillen found Cecil for a bucket on the first possession of the third quarter, but moments later, a Frost layup began a 9-0 run, capped by a Watters triple that gave Central a 30-point lead.
That advantage never fell below 29 points thereafter. CMU continued to shoot the ball well, going 10-for-18 (55.6%) in the third quarter.
It was a 31-point game after a Lambert bucket with 6:56 remaining in the game, but Hudson hit two more three-pointers, the second coming with just 4:07 left in the game, and Kelly's layup capped an 8-0 run and gave the visitors a 39-point lead with 3:45 remaining.
FINAL STATISTICS
• The Chippewas shot just over 50 percent on the night, including a 12-for-18 (66.7%) effort in the first quarter. CMU went 11-for-28 from three-point range.
• BGSU shot 35.6% from the floor and 4-of-14 (28.6%) from the arc. The Falcons also had an uncharacteristically poor night at the free-throw line, going just 8-for-17.
• Led by Frost, the visitors had a 50-28 rebounding advantage.
• BG had 16 turnovers to CMU's 11, but the Chippewas turned nearly every one of those turnovers into points. Central had a 30-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
