SETTING THE SCENE
• The Bowling Green State University softball team, coming off of a pair of midweek wins, returns to the road for a fifth tournament in as many weekends. Head coach Sarah Willis and the Falcons are scheduled to play four games in the Morehead State Classic in Morehead, Ky., on Saturday and Sunday (March 16-17).
• The Falcons will face St. Bonaventure and the host school, MSU, two times apiece. Saturday afternoon's game vs. the host Eagles will be streamed on ESPN+.
TOUCH 'EM ALL (FOUR FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT THE FALCONS)
• The Falcons are coming off of a doubleheader sweep of Oakland on Wednesday (March 13). Senior Kellie Natham hit a two-run walk-off home run in the opening game, a 6-5 win at Meserve Field.
• Natham became the first Falcon to hit two homers in a game in over three years, since Marisa Shook went deep twice against Morehead State on Feb. 20, 2016.
• Last season, BGSU hitters had a total of three home runs in 16 home games. On Wednesday, the Falcons hit five round-trippers in the DH sweep of the Golden Grizzlies.
• No individual Falcon had more than one homer during the entirety of the 2018 home schedule. But, Natham's second homer of 2019 at Meserve Field came in her fourth plate appearance of 2019 at Meserve Field.
FALCONS DIG THE LONG BALL
• As mentioned, the Falcons hit a total of five homers on Wednesday vs. Oakland. BG got at least one home run from a player in each class, as senior Kellie Natham hit two, while junior Evelyn Loyola, sophomore Nikki Sorgi and freshman Marissa Mullen went deep once each in the DH.
• Four of the home runs – two in each game – came from a hitter who was leading off an inning. The fifth, Natham's second dinger in the opener, was a walk-off blast.
THE 2019 FALCONS: A QUICK OVERVIEW
• The Falcons are 6-11 on the season, and  BGSU enters the Morehead State Classic riding a two-game winning streak. The Falcons picked up two victories in the home-opening doubleheader vs. Oakland on Wednesday afternoon (March 13), winning by scores of 6-5 and 8-4.
• BGSU is 2-0 at home, 2-3 on the road and 2-8 at neutral sites to date.
• For the Falcons, no player with more than 11 at-bats is hitting better than .321, but a total of six such players are batting over .250. Junior Taylor Blevins and sophomore Nikki Sorgi are hitting .321 and .308, respectively. Blevins had a BG-best six-game hitting streak through the Oakland opener.
• Sorgi leads the Falcons with eight runs scored and 11 RBI. With 12 hits on the year, she has matched or surpassed her totals (eight runs, three RBI, nine hits) for all of last season. The sophomore has five extra-base hits this season after a total of one in 2018.
• Junior Madi McCoy and freshman Marissa Mullen are batting .296 and .269, respectively. McCoy has a team-high .556 slugging percentage, while Mullen leads the Falcons with an on-base pct. of .500.
• Seniors Kellie Natham and Alex Sorgi are hitting .263 and .255, respectively. Natham leads the Falcons with three home runs, while Sorgi has a BG-best seven stolen bases on the young season.
• In the circle, seniors Meredith Miller and Brooke Parker have combined to start all 17 games. Miller has made 10 starts, and is 4-6 with a 3.63 earned-run average. She has four complete games, one shutout and 66 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings, and has allowed opponents to hit just .229 against her.
• Parker is 2-5 with a 3.76 ERA and one save. She has a pair of complete games, along with an opponent batting average of .283.
• A total of 17 different Falcons have made at least three starts this season. Only Alex Sorgi and sophomore Sarah Gonzalez have started all 17 games. Sophomore Payton Hamm has made 14 starts, Nikki Sorgi and  fellow soph Sammy Dees 13 apiece and senior Kali Holcomb 12.
• As a team, the Falcons are hitting .232 on the young season, to the opponents' .261.
• Head coach Sarah Willis is in her fourth season at the BG helm. She and her staff welcomed back 14 letterwinners, including six positional starters, from a year ago. Those six players include four – Dees, Gonzalez, Holcomb and Alex Sorgi – who started all 52 of the team's games in 2018.
• The returning hitters combined for 66.2 percent of the team's at-bats, 61.8% of the hits, 72.8% of the runs scored and 64.8% of the RBI in 2018.
• Four of the five pitchers who saw action last season returned, and that quartet combined to pitch 99.2% of the team's innings a year ago. The group also combined for 100% of the pitching staff's wins and strikeouts.
• Additionally, Willis and Company also welcomed a total of eight newcomers to the 2019 roster.
LAST SEASON...
• The Falcons wrapped up the 2018 schedule with an overall record of 26-26. BGSU posted the program's highest win total in five years, since the 2013 club went 27-24, and the Brown and Orange finished with a .500 record for the first time since that '13 campaign as well. BG went 8-14 in Mid-American Conference play, finishing fourth in the East Division.
THE OPPONENTS
• St. Bonaventure enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-8. The Bonnies went 2-3 at a tournament in Hawai'i last weekend, with a pair of victories over Niagara.
• Brooke Kane-Walker is batting a team-best .348, while McKenna Holtz is hitting .345 on the year for coach Mike Threehouse.
• In the circle, six different pitchers have seen action. Ally Haskell has a team-high five starts, and is 1-4 with an ERA of 8.61.
• Last season, SBU went 10-32 overall and 3-18 in Atlantic 10 Conference play.
• Morehead State is 0-13 on the young season after dropping a pair of games vs. Louisville earlier this week.
• Princess Valencia is hitting .625 in limited action, having gone 5-for-8, while Peyton Rose is batting .333 for first-year head coach Samantha Jones.
• Lakyn Largent has pitched in 12 of the 13 games, making eight starts on the season. She has an ERA of 8.92.
• Last year, the Eagles went 28-23 overall and 8-14 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
THE SERIES
• BGSU leads St. Bonaventure, 4-1, in the all-time series between the schools. The teams met three times, with BG winning two, in a five-day span in March of 2007 in Charleston, S.C. Emily Gouge threw a no-hitter in the latter game. Then, the Falcons captured 8-3 and 5-4 wins in Charlotte, N.C., in February of 2017.
• The Falcons lead Morehead State, 4-1-1, in that series. BG faced the Eagles three times from 2003-04, and the Falcons posted a neutral-site victory in 2012. The teams met on back-to-back weekends in February of 2016, with MSU capturing a 6-5 decision, but BG bouncing back with an 11-1 win seven days later.
