East Wins Beam MAC Championship; Falcons Place Fifth

DeKalb, Ill. – Junior Jovannah East won the Mid-American Conference Championship on balance beam and placed third in the all-around as the Bowling Green State University gymnastics team competed in the MAC Championships Saturday, hosted by Northern Illinois.
Bowling Green posted a team score of 194.250 to finish fifth overall. Northern Illinois won the championship with a 195.975, followed by Central Michigan at 195.575. Eastern Michigan was third at 195.350 and Kent State scored 194.775. Western Michigan placed sixth, behind BGSU, with a score of 193.750 and Ball State was seventh at 193.500.

EAST WINS MAC CHAMPIONSHIP
- Junior Jovannah East won the MAC Championship on balance beam with a score of 9.900. It marks the second consecutive year that she won an event at the meet, ending as vault champion a year ago.
- East also finished third in the all-around competition with a 39.125. Central Michigan's Denelle Pedrick won the all-around at 39.350, while Western Michigan's Rachael Underwood was second at 39.200.
- Along with her 9.900 on beam, East posted a 9.850 on floor, a 9.825 on vault and a 9.550 on bars.
- For her efforts, East was named to the All-Tournament team.
DOMINANT ON THE BALANCE BEAM
- Bowling Green scored a 49.075 on beam, the second-highest team score of the meet on the apparatus.
- Jovannah East won the MAC title with a 9.900, but she was not the only Falcon with a strong effort.
- Lexi Augustine scored a season-best 9.850 and Jasmine Jones tied her career-high with a 9.825.
- Julia Beyer and Lauren DeMeno each finished with a score of 9.750.
SENIORS COMPLETE CAREERS
- Bowling Green's six seniors completed their careers Saturday. All six contributed at the MAC Championships.
- Julia Beyer posted a 9.750 on beam and added a 9.300 on floor.
- Rachel Creagh recorded a 9.325 on vault.
- Leslie Delgado was the team's top scorer on bars, posting a 9.750 from the anchor position.
- Captain Lauren DeMeno competed in three rotations, recording a 9.800 on vault. She also had a 9.750 on beam and a 9.400 on bars.
- Katie Morsefield tied her career-best with a 9.700 on bars. She also scored a 9.775 on floor and 9.650 on vault.
- Kayla Rose tied her season-best on floor with a 9.825.

- "While we did not achieve the result we wanted, I am proud of this team for staying focused and working throughout the entire meet. The team competed with confidence and fought through every rotation. I was particularly pleased with the performance on bars and beam. In addition, our seniors competed very well and they finished their careers on a high note."
NEXT UP
- Bowling Green will await individual bids to the postseason. Jovannah East is expected to earn a trip to the NCAA regional round in the all-around. She qualified for the NCAA National Championship a year ago as an all-arounder. Lauren DeMeno is also a candidate for a spot on vault.
