Seventeen Swim And Dive Athletes Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program had a total of 17 athletes named to the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving All-MAC team this year, as announced by the conference on Friday, April 5. This is an increase for the Falcons after having 12 athletes named following last season. The MAC named 129 student-athletes to this year's team. To be named Academic All-MAC, athletes must have maintained at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that sport.

The 17 athletes named Academic All-MAC include seniors Nikki Borgerding, Rebekah Perry, Claire Stam, Emily Verbrugge, Ashley White and Franziska Wohlert, juniors Mary Edwards, Sarah Fergus, Talisa Lemke and Michaela Ruddock and sophomores Maddy Andrews, Ashleigh Franks, Sarah Hennings, Shaunna Jones, Noelle Lavigne, Kasie Perretta and Lauren Sullivan. Eastern Michigan led the conference with 25 athletes being named. However, the Falcons led the conference in most athletes with a 4.000 GPA, with five. Buffalo was the only other MAC team with multiple, having two athletes register a 4.000. Eastern Michigan and Toledo each had one.
Maddy Andrews a sophomore majoring in marketing, has logged a 3.500 in her time at BGSU. During the season, Andrews tallied three first place finishes, winning the 200 Freestyle against Ball State on Oct. 26 and against Michigan State on Nov. 9 and the 500 Freestyle against Youngstown State on Nov. 10.
Senior Nikki Borgerding has maintained a 3.377 while majoring in Pre-Middle School Education. Borgerding placed first in two events for the Falcons, the 100 Breaststroke against Youngstown State on Nov. 10 and the 200 Breaststroke against Toledo.
Biology major Mary Edwards has held a 3.870 GPA through her junior season. Her 2018-19 campaign was highlighted by a 1000 Freestyle win against Youngstown State.
Sarah Fergus a junior majoring in Pre-Exercise Science holds a 3.520 GPA and recorded a new personal best in the 200 Backstroke at the MAC Championships.
Ashleigh Franks, an Early Childhood Education major, is one of the athletes to register a 4.000. The sophomore registered an early first place finish in the 50 Freestyle against Findlay and Northern Michigan on Oct. 6.
Another 4.000 athlete, sophomore Sarah Hennings is majoring in Microbiology and registered ten first place finishes for the Falcons, highlighted by a win in the 100 Butterfly against Toledo.
Shaunna Jones, a sophomore studying Pre-Exercise Science, has maintained a 3.641 GPA over the course of the season. This season against Toledo, Jones registered three new personal records.
Noelle Lavigne, also a sophomore studying Pre-Exercise Science, holds a 3.666 GPA. At the MAC Championships this year, she registered personal bests in the 50 Freestyle and 200 Backstroke.
While qualifying for the NCAA Diving Zones for the second consecutive year, junior Talisa Lemke registered a 4.000 while majoring in Theatre. Over the course of the year, she tallied 15 first place finishes.
Sophomore Kasie Perretta has maintained a 3.743 majoring in Neuroscience. Perretta's season concluded with her setting three new personal records at the MAC Championships.
A Communication Disorders major, senior Rebekah Perry holds a 3.585 GPA while setting new personal bests in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives this season.
Michaela Ruddock has a 3.729 GPA and is a junior studying Health Science. During the season, Ruddock registered five new personal bests in various events.
Senior Claire Stam is another Falcon with a 4.000 GPA and is majoring in Early Childhood Education. Her best dive of the season came against Youngstown State when she scored a 286.50 in the 3-meter dive.
The Falcons' fifth athlete to register a 4.000 is Lauren Sullivan, a sophomore majoring in Communication Disorders. Over the course of the season, Sullivan tallied 11 top three finishes.
Senior Emily Verbrugge is majoring in Microbiology and has maintained a 3.736 GPA. This year, she won two events for Bowling Green, the 200 Breaststroke against Youngstown State and the 400 Individual Medley against Toledo.
Ashley White recorded a 3.732 GPA through her senior year while majoring in nursing. During the season for BGSU, she finished in the top three of various dive events eight times.
The final Falcons recognized is senior Franziska Wohlert who maintained a 3.415 GPA in Management. Wohlert was able to place first in seven events for the Orange and Brown this season.
Of the 17 Falcons to be named, eight have received the honor in a previous season. Mary Edwards, Claire Stam, Emily Verbrugge and Ashley White received recognition for the third time, while Sarah Fergus, Talisa Lemke, Rebekah Perry and Franziska Wohlert were named for a second time.
