Japan native joins Falcons from South Georgia Technical College
Bowling Green State University women's basketball coach Robyn Fralick has announced the signing of Mari Hill (Nagakute, Japan) to a National Letter of Intent. Hill will join the Falcon program for the 2019-20 academic year.
Hill, who spent the 2018-19 academic year at South Georgia Technical College, will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are so excited to welcome Mari to our Bowling Green women's basketball family," said Fralick. "She brings great experience and success to our program. She does a great job of creating for others and has a high feel for the game. We are thrilled to have her join us."
Hill, a 5-6 point guard, is a native of Nagakute, Japan, and graduated from Asuwa H.S. In 2018-19, she led the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) and ranked third in the nation in assists per game, while also finishing ninth nationally in steals per game for the Lady Jets. Hill averaged 5.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 3.7 steals per game last season as SGTC finished with an overall record of 30-4 and a perfect 18-0 league mark. She had an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.4.
Hill was the MVP of the NJCAA Region XVII Tournament, and helped Coach James Frey's team earn a spot in the NJCAA Division I National Tournament. She was also named to the GCAA All-Academic Team in 2018-19.
Hill attended Tallahassee Community College as a freshman in 2017-18, helping the Eagles win the NJCAA Division I National Championship. TCC finished with an overall record of 29-6, and the Eagles became the lowest seed (No. 11) ever to win the tournament.
Hill played in 34 games at TCC, starting 19. She averaged 5.9 points, 1.7 boards, 2.1 assists and 1.4 steals per contest.
Hill is scheduled to graduate from SGTC this month with an Associate's Degree in Sports and Fitness Management, and she currently maintains a 3.8 grade-point average.
Hill becomes the fifth member of Fralick's first signing class at BGSU. The Falcons announced the additions of Elissa Brett (Adelaide, Australia), Macy Spielman (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Olivia Trice (Huber Heights, Ohio) in November of 2018, with Kaillie Hall (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada) signing National Letter of Intent in April of 2019.
The Falcons finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-21 overall record. BGSU had just two seniors on the '18-19 roster.
