PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Shirley Spork, a former BGSU student and faculty member, will be inducted into the PGA Hall of Fame on Nov. 5 at the PGA's 103rd Annual Meeting in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Spork will be a part of a six-member class that also includes Annika Sorenstam, Davis Love III, Dave Marr II, Karsten Solheim and Derek Sprague.
"On behalf of our entire program, we would like to congratulate Shirley Spork on this incredible honor," said head coach Stephanie Young. "It has been so special to forge a friendship with Shirley over the years and I cannot thank her enough for her mentoring and support of me as a coach and of our women's golf program. It is a special connection and privilege to have BGSU be a part of Shirley's remarkable career. It is also one of the amazing beginnings of women's golf at BG and for that we are very grateful.
"Shirley has been so generous in giving back to BGSU Women's Golf and it has had such an impact on our young women through the years. She is such a wonderful ambassador for the game of golf, which is why this honor is so deserving."
One of the 13 co-founders of the LPGA, Spork initiated the creation of the LGPA Teaching Committee, which was later reorganized into today's LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals division. The division currently has over 1,750 members across all 50 states and over 20 countries worldwide.
