YORKTOWN, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team posted its best round of the season this afternoon to close out the Cardinal Classic. The Falcons carded a team score of 305 to move up one spot on the leaderboard, finishing in eighth place at the 11-team tournament.
The hosts, Ball State, won the event by two strokes over IUPUI. The event was played at The Players Club in Yorktown, Indiana.
"It was good to see us breakthrough with a lower score today and move up a place on the board," said head coach Stephanie Young. "We have a week in between our next event which will give us an opportunity to work on the things that need improvement."
Nichole Cox and Jessica Madry led the Orange and Brown on the afternoon, firing rounds of 73 and 74, respectively. Both Falcons led the team in the final round with three birdies apiece.
For Cox, her final-round 73 was her best round since carding a 73 in the final round of the ORU/SFA Spring Break shootout on March 21, 2017. Cox moved up two spots on the individual leaderboard to finish T-7, marking the sixth top-10 finish of her BGSU career.
Kayla Davis finished up another solid tournament. After recording rounds of 78-74-75 last week at the Redbird Invitational, the true freshman registered her sixth-straight round in the 70s to begin her career. Davis shot a 79 on the day to finish T-32.
Dani Austinson also carded a 79, and came just one stroke away from tying her career low. Bowling Green's lineup was topped off by efforts from Erin Korn (80-79-83—242) and Kelsey Sager (81-83-86).
