On The Road Again: Tennis To Travel To West Lafayette This Weekend
September 18, 2019 | Women's Tennis
Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis program will continue their fall campaign this weekend, traveling to West Lafayette, Ind. to take part in the Purdue Invitational. The invitational will serve as the second bout of action for the Falcons following last weekend's BGSU Invitational, hosted at Keefe Courts. The invitational, hosted by the Boilermakers, will span over three days, beginning on Friday and concluding on Sunday.Â
Last Time Out
While hosting last weekend, the Orange and Brown saw senior Ayumi Sasaki win her bracket, topping fellow Falcon, freshman Joanna Tsadari. As for doubles, senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and junior Marta Bettinelli won their bracket, besting a duo from Oakland in the finals. As a team, Bowling Green saw improvement and success across the board, seeing multiple athletes advance to at least the semifinals.Â
Looking Ahead
The experience gained from the invitational will serve the Falcons well when they resume play in January following the fall tournaments. Purdue is slated as the first opponent for Bowling Green in the spring season, travelling back to West Lafayette on Saturday, Jan. 18. During that weekend, BGSU will also play Notre Dame on Sunday, Jan. 19.Â
Youth Movement
As demonstrated at the BGSU Invitational, the Falcons are sporting a young and new roster this season. Of the seven athletes on the roster, three are newcomers this year, two freshmen and one transfer junior. Additionally, three of the seven are either a freshman or sophomore with one sophomore in addition to the two incoming freshmen.Â
