The BGSU women's basketball team returns to the Stroh Center for the first home Mid-American Conference game of the season Wednesday night as the Falcons host Ball State at 7:00 pm.
Ball State enters Wednesday evening's contest with a record of 9-4 overall after defeating Kent State in the MAC opener Saturday 66-62. The Cardinals are 5-3 away from Worthen Arena, including a 2-2 record in true road games.
Bowling Green is 7-6 overall and 0-1 in MAC play after dropping the MAC opener at Eastern Michigan Saturday 78-61. The Falcons, however, are 4-0 at home and have won those contests by an average of 28.5 points per game.
Saturday's contest is the first of two consecutive home games for Bowling Green. The Falcons will host Akron Saturday at 2:00 pm for Ladies Night/Alumnae Night.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
BGSU is 44-23 all-time against Ball State, including 24-6 at home. However, Ball State holds a 4-1 edge in the series in the Stroh Center. The Cardinals, in fact, have won nine in a row since Bowling Green beat Ball State 72-61 back in January of 2014.
A year ago, Ball State used a large differential at the free-throw line to come away with a 77-70 victory. Bowling Green made one more field goal than the Cardinals and the teams were 36-36 on the boards. Ball State, though, went 19-of-25 from the line while the Falcons made just 10 trips to the charity stripe.
MAC OPENER RECAP
BGSU opened Mid-American Conference play Saturday with a 78-61 loss at Eastern Michigan. EMU used a 19-2 run that spanned the first and second quarters to build a 17-point lead. The Eagles led by as many as 22 in the second half, but Bowling Green charged back and closed to within six in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. Eastern Michigan, however, weathered the storm and pulled away late for the victory.
Caterrion Thompson led BGSU with 13 points in the contest, while Angela Perry and Elissa Brett added 12 apiece. Eastern Michigan held a 44-23 rebounding advantage and forced a season-high 23 BGSU turnovers.
NON-CONFERENCE RECAP
Bowling Green went 7-5 in the non-conference portion of the schedule, closing play with a 91-52 win over Davis & Elkins Monday, Dec. 30. The Falcons went 4-0 at home with wins over Cleveland State, Morehead State, Notre Dame College and Davis & Elkins. BGSU also recorded wins over California Baptist, Marshall and Milwaukee, with the latter two contests coming in true road games.
The Falcons played a strong non-conference schedule that included contests against Purdue, Loyola (Chicago) and Green Bay. All five of BGSU's losses in non-conference play came against teams with at least seven wins on the year.
PARKER RULES THE ARC
Madisen Parker has taken over the national lead in three-point percentage. At 44-for-87 from long range, Parker has made 50.6 percent of her attempts from behind the arc. She has nudged ahead of Duquesne's Libby Bazelak (31-of-62 for 50 percent) and Florida Gulf Coast's Davion Wingate (38-of-77 for 49.4 percent). Parker's 44 made three-pointers is 11th nationally and is the most among those in the top six in the country in three-point percentage.
With Parker's deadly shooting, BGSU ranks sixth nationally as a team in three-point percentage at 40.0 percent. The Falcons have made 9.1 three-pointers per game, 12th in the country.
Where's the top three-point shooter in the country reside? Don't miss out Wednesday night when @BGSUwbb hosts Ball State at 7:00 pm. #QueenOfTheArc #OneMore #AyZiggy
