ATHENS, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team went into Ohio University's Convocation Center on Wednesday (Dec. 30) afternoon and walked away with an 83-75 victory over the Bobcats. The Falcons overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and 11-point deficit with 14:09 left in regulation to improve to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference play.
Bowling Green, down 10 points at the break, trailed by as many as 13 points in the contest. BGSU didn't capture its first lead until senior Trey Diggs hit a free throw with 7:05 left in the game. With the victory, the Falcons move to 6-2 on the young season. Ohio drops to 4-4 (0-2 MAC) with the loss. OU, picked to finish second in the MAC in the league's preseason poll, lost at No. 15 Illinois by just two points on Nov. 27.
The game-deciding stretch took place with under four minutes in regulation. After Ohio regained a 74-72 lead, freshman guard Josiah Fulcher drove the lane and found Diggs for a wide-open layup with 3:36 remaining. Fifth-year senior Justin Turner hit a pair of free throws with 2:43 to go, and then found freshman Kaden Metheny for a reverse layup just 20 seconds later, giving the Falcons a 78-74 lead. BGSU capped the 8-0 run with a pair of Turner free throws with 55 seconds to play.
Five Falcons – Diggs (20), Metheny (16), Turner (15), redshirt-sophomore Dylan Swingle (14) and senior Daeqwon Plowden (11) – scored in double figures. Bowling Green totaled 51 points in the second half and shot 52.4 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes to earn the win.

• The Falcons have won in Athens in back-to-back seasons for just the third time since 1984. BGSU beat Ohio last season in the Convocation Center, 83-74, Jan. 11, 2020. Prior to the most-recent run, BGSU last beat OU in consecutive seasons in 2015 and 2016. The 2016 win – a 91-75 decision – marked Michael Huger's first MAC road win as Bowling Green's head coach.
• It was a historic day at the free throw line for the Falcons, as BGSU came one make shy of setting a new school record. The Falcons went 36-of-38 (94.7 percent) from the charity stripe. The school record was set in a 2006 game versus Kent State, as BG went 34-of-35 (97.1 percent) from the free throw line.
• The 36 free-throw makes are the most in a single game for Bowling Green since making 37 in a MAC Tournament win at Ball State on March 10, 2003. Incredibly, BG's 38 free-throw attempts are the most in a single game since its last MAC game, on Dec. 6, versus Buffalo. BGSU went 31-of-40 (77.5 percent) from the free throw line in the MAC opener.
• BGSU is 26-12 in Mid-American Conference play since 2018.
• Bowling Green is tied for first place atop the Mid-American Conference standings with a 2-0 record. Ball State and Toledo are 2-0, as well. BGSU's six total wins on the season is tied with Toledo for most in the conference.
• Bowling Green is 2-0 in MAC play for just the sixth time since 2000, including the second-such start in the Michael Huger Era. BG also started 2-0 in league play in 2018-19.
• The Falcons are off to a 6-2 start for the third time under head coach Michael Huger.

• Senior Trey Diggs, who registered 20-plus points twice in 31 games last season, has already scored 20-plus points twice in eight games this season. • Diggs has gone 5-for-10 from the field in back-to-back games. The senior has now scored in double figures 18 times (seven times in 2020-21) in the Orange and Brown. Diggs, who is shooting 46.0 percent (23-of-50) from downtown this season, has converted on multiple three-pointers in 6-of-8 games in 2020-21.
• Diggs also tied his career high with seven rebounds. He's now had seven rebounds in three games as a Falcon, including earlier this month on Dec. 3 versus Purdue Northwest.
• Guard Kaden Metheny led the team in rebounding in an impressive showing from the freshman. Metheny set career highs with 16 points and eight rebounds. The Morgantown, West Virginia native has scored in double figures five times this season.
• Fifth-year senior Justin Turner continues to close in on BGSU's all-time scoring record. Turner finished with 15 points and has now scored 1,764 points over 102 games. Turner is 26 points shy of surpassing Antonio Daniels (1993-97 | 1,789 points) for fourth place. He's 175 points away from becoming Bowling Green's all-time leading scorer. Turner ranks ninth all-time in school history with a 17.3 career scoring average.
• Along with his 15 points, Turner added six assists and five rebounds. Turner, who entered the game ranked 15th in the country with a 4.38 assist-to-turnover ratio, has led the Falcons in assists in five games in 2020-21.
• Redshirt-sophomore center Dylan Swingle scored a career-high 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Swingle made a career-high six free throws, going 6-for-6 at the line. Swingle had his first-career block and played a career-high 26 minutes. The 14 points for Swingle marked his first-career game in double figures scoring. He's had a pair of nine-point games in his career (vs. Nevada on Nov. 25, 2019 and vs. Appalachian State on Nov. 30, 2020).
• Senior forward Daeqwon Plowden scored in double figures for the 43rd time in his career, finishing with 11 points while tying a career high with nine free-throw makes. Plowden went 9-for-10 at the line. Plowden also attempted nine free throws at Miami last season on Feb. 29, 2020. Additionally, Plowden posted five rebounds and tied a season high with three assists.
• Freshman guard Josiah Fulcher earned a signature on the oar for some clutch play and overall production. Fulcher, who had a key assist on a game-tying basket with under four minutes to play, finished with three points, three rebounds and a career-high two assists. The Lima native recorded an on-court rating of plus-12 on the afternoon. His three points came on a first-half triple, which marked the first three-pointer of his collegiate career.
• Junior Jacob Washington gave the Falcons four points on 2-of-3 shooting, while fellow junior Caleb Fields added three rebounds.
