2019-20 IN THE BOOKS...
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team has seen the season come to an end. Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons wrapped up the 2019-20 campaign with records of 10-21 overall and 3-15 in Mid-American Conference play.
THE OPENING TIP: NUMBER FOUR IS NUMBER ONE
• BGSU junior Madisen Parker led the entire nation in three-point field-goal percentage in 2019-20. Parker went 98-for-204 from the arc, a 48.0% success rate from long distance. She set school single-season records in both three-pointers made and three-point FG pct. Much more information about Parker's prolific performance can be found later in these notes.
SCORE MORE!
• The Falcons averaged 72.3 points per game this season. BGSU had not averaged over 70 ppg in nine years, since the 2010-11 team scored 71.8 ppg.
• BGSU scored 75 or more points in a game 14 times this season, far surpassing last year's total of nine such games. The 2019-20 team's total is the highest since the 2010-11 team also had 14 games of 75-plus points en route to 28 wins. No team had had more since the 2009-10 team reached the 75-point plateau 15 times.
• The Falcons have scored at least 75 points on 23 occasions in head coach Robyn Fralick's first two years, after doing so a total of 13 times in the previous four seasons.
SHARING IS CARING
• Two years ago, the Falcons were close to last in the nation in assists. With a total of 277 assists and an average of 9.2 helpers per game, BGSU was ranked 343rd (out of 349 teams) in the former category and 345th in the latter.
• Last season, BGSU improved to 72nd in the country with 15.1 assists per game, and the Falcons were 96th in the land with a total of 454 assists.

KEEP HAMMERING AWAY
• Last season, 12 of BGSU's 18 MAC regular-season games were within three points at some time in the fourth quarter, and no fewer than seven were tied or a one-possession game in the final minute.
• This season, 11 of BGSU's 21 total losses were by nine points or less. Four of those 11 – as well as an additional loss (by 10 points) – came in overtime.
• Nineteen of BG's 21 setbacks in 2019-20 were within eight points at some point in the fourth quarter.
• Fourteen of them were four-point games or closer with under eight minutes to go.
• And, no fewer than 10 were within two (or fewer) points within the last two minutes of regulation.
• BGSU, 10-21 on the season, outscored opponents, 2241-2239, in the 31 games.
FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH...
• The Falcons finished the MAC schedule with a 3-15 record, but – as mentioned in the above note – BG was agonizingly close to winning several more games in conference competition, leading several games late in the fourth quarter.
• If MAC games lasted 36 minutes, BGSU's record would have been 6-11-1. If league games were shortened by just one minute, to 39 minutes, the Falcons would have gone 6-12. If MAC basketball had suddenly allowed games to end in a tie, BG would have finished conference play with a 3-11-4 mark.
• What does this all mean? We don't really know, other than the fact that it's a fine line between winning and losing, and the Falcons walked that line during the entire conference season. For what it's worth, BGSU ended the regular season by going 2-2 (using the current rules of the game of basketball).
LEADERS OF THE MAC
• The Falcons finished the season ranked at or near the top of the MAC in numerous statistical categories. As a team, BGSU led the conference in three-point field-goal percentage (37.8%), assists per game (16.2) and assist/turnover ratio (1.02). BG was the only team in the league with more assists than turnovers.
• The Falcons were second in the league in field-goal pct. (44.6%), and BG was third in scoring (72.3), three-pointers made per game (8.4) and defensive rebounds (28.8).

Parker was well ahead of the second-place finisher in each category. She hit 3.16 three-pointers per game (the second-place finisher made 2.79 per game) and shot 48.0% from the arc (second place was 40.8%). Parker was 12th in the conference in minutes played.
• Fellow junior Angela Perry led the entire MAC in field-goal percentage (57.7% – second place was 51.2%) and tied for third in blocked shots. Perry ranked 14th in the loop in scoring.
• Sophomore Kadie Hempfling finished second in the conference in assists, fifth in assist/turnover ratio, sixth in defensive rebounds and seventh in overall rebounding.
• Fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson tied for eighth in the MAC in three-point FG made per game, and she finished 14th in overall FG pct. and 17th in scoring.
• Junior Mari Hill was 15th in the league in assists per game, while freshman Elissa Brett finished 16th in the MAC – and third among freshmen – in rebounding.
FALCONS IN THE NATION
• A number of the totals/averages outlined in the above paragraphs have the Falcons in the national rankings as well. As a team, BGSU finished 10th in the nation in three-point field-goal percentage, and the Falcons were 17th in both total treys made and defensive rebounds. BG was ranked among the top-40 teams in the country in three-pointers made per game (20th), assists per game (25th), overall field-goal pct. (27th) and total assists (also 27th), and the Falcons finished 42nd in the nation in scoring.

Fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson was in the top 120 in three long-distance categories – three-point FG pct. (71st), total triples made (97th) and three-pointers made per game (119th).
• And, sophomore Kadie Hempfling – a forward – finished among the top-50 players in the land in total assists (30th) and assists per game (42nd), and she was 148th in the country in total rebounds.
PARK FROM THE ARC! JUNIOR SHARPSHOOTER SHATTERS SCHOOL RECORD
• Junior Madisen Parker knocked down six three-pointers at Akron (March 7), then hit her only long-distance attempt at Western Michigan two days later. The latter shot gave her 98 long-distance shots this season. Parker set a school record in that category, breaking the record set by the legen ... wait for it ... dary Lauren Prochaska 10 years ago.
• Parker also broke the school single-season record with 54 three-pointers made in MAC games.

• Junior Madisen Parker broke the school record for three-point field goals made in a season. We just told you that in the very last note. But, Parker ALSO broke the BGSU single-season record for three-point field-goal percentage.
• Fun Fact: Even if Parker had taken 12 more three-pointers and missed all of them, she still would have broken the record.

• On Feb. 20, junior Madisen Parker was named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District® Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Parker, a junior, was named to the first team. A middle childhood education major with a perfect 4.000 cumulative GPA, she is the first Falcon named to the team in five years.
FALCONS ON THE SINGLE-SEASON LISTS
• We just spent roughly an entire page of these notes (it's roughly a page in the PDF version, at least) extolling the virtues of Madisen Parker's three-point shooting. Parker, however, is not the only Falcon to etch her name in the record books in 2019-20.
• Junior Angela Perry's field-goal percentage (57.7%) is the seventh-highest in school history, and she blocked 36 shots in 2019-20 to tie for 10th on that BGSU single-season list.
• Fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson made 66 three-pointers, the 13th-highest total in school history. Parker and Thompson both landed in the top-10 in three-point attempts, with 204 and 180, respectively.
• Sophomore Kadie Hempfling's total of 153 assists ranks 12th on that BGSU list.

SINGLE-GAME RECORDS SET (OR TIED) IN 2019-20
• Junior Angela Perry made 16 field goals in the Falcons' blowout win over California Baptist (Nov. 30). That tied the BGSU single-game record held by Jacki Raterman. Raterman hit 16 shots in a quadruple-overtime win at Ball State in January of 1999.
• Fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson made eight three-point field goals against Kent State at the Stroh Center (Feb. 29). She became the fourth Falcon to knock down eight long-range shots in a game, and just the second to do so in a MAC regular-season contest.
• The Falcons shot 100 percent from the free-throw line, going a perfect 11-for-11 from the stripe in a home win over Morehead State (Nov. 9). The top performance in school history came in a 2009 win vs. Buffalo, when BG went 24-for-24 from the line.
THREE-MENDOUS!
• BGSU made at least four three-point field goals in 29 of this season's 31 games, with at least 10 successful triples in 12 of those contests. The Falcons finished the year ranked 20th nationally in three-pointers made per game, averaging 8.4 successful triples per outing, and BG is 17th in the land in total treys made, with 261.
THREE-LIGHTFUL!
• As a team, the Falcons shot 37.8 percent from the arc, ranking 10th in the entire nation. And, have we mentioned that junior Madisen Parker was ranked ninth or better in three individual three-point categories? Parker hit at least one triple in 29 of the year's 31 games, and made four or more treys 14 times this winter.
SEE THE THREE, BE THE THREE
• BGSU will be looking to extend a mucho-impressive streak when the 2020-21 season gets underway. The Falcons have hit at least one three-pointer in each of the last 490 contests. BG has not been held without a triple in over 15 years – since Feb. 12, 2005, at Akron, when the Falcons won, 61-52, despite going 0-of-13 from the arc.
THREE-MARKABLE
• The Falcons made at least 10 treys on 12 occasions this season, tied for the second-highest total in school history. The 2009-10 squad owns the school record with 13 games of 10 or more long-range makes. The list? See below...Â

HEMPFLING'S A TRIPLE THREAT
• No player in BGSU women's basketball history has ever recorded a triple-double. But, sophomore Kadie Hempfling has come close on multiple occasions this year. And, in the last week of February, Hempfling AVERAGED a triple-double.
• In BGSU's games against Ohio and Kent State – the top-two teams in the MAC East Division – Hempfling had totals of 21 points, 21 rebounds and 21 assists. She had seven points (on just four shots) along with game-high totals of nine rebounds and 15 assists in the Falcons' double-digit win over the Bobcats.
• Then, against Kent State, Hempfling had 14 points and tied for game honors with 12 rebounds, adding six assists in the double-overtime setback.
• In the last five games of the season, Hempfling averaged 8.4 points, 9.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists.
• Hempfling's assist total in the Ohio game shattered the Stroh Center record and tied her for third on the BGSU single-game list. It was the first 15-assist game by a Falcon in over 16 years.

HEMPFLING LENDS A HELPING HAND
• Kadie Hempfling, the Falcons' starter at the four position, dished out a team-leading 121 assists last season. This year, Hempfling had a total of 153 assists, leading the team – and ranking second in the MAC – with 4.9 helpers per game.
• Hempfling is the first Falcon with back-to-back seasons of 100 assists or more since Jillian Halfhill turned the trick in 2012-13 (114) and '13-14 (109).
• Her total of 153 assists is the highest by a Falcon in 12 years, since Kate Achter dished out a school-record 237 in 2007-08.
• In the first eight years after the Stroh Center opened, only one women's basketball player (Kent State's Mikell Chinn) had handed out 10 or more assists in a game. This year, Hempling accomplished that feat three times, with 10 in home wins over Cleveland State and Notre Dame College and 15 vs. Ohio.
THREE-ON THOMPSON! CATERRION TIES SCHOOL SINGLE-GAME RECORD
• Fourth-year Falcon Caterrion Thompson exploded for a career-high 32 points vs.  Kent State on Feb. 29. In that game, Thompson tied the school single-game record by making eight three-pointers. Thompson, who was 8-for-10 from the arc, is just the fourth Falcon in history to make eight long-range shots in a game.

• A pair of Falcon freshmen had some of their best performances of the season in late February and early March.Â
• Elissa Brett had 11 rebounds and seven assists, the highest totals of her young career in each category, at Akron (March 7). then, she set a personal rebounding mark for the second time in as many games, with 13 boards at Western Michigan (March 9).
• Brett had her first collegiate double-double in that WMU game, with 14 points vs. the Broncos. She averaged 10.7 points per game in BGSU's three March games, and averaged 10.8 rebounds over the final four games of the season.
• Olivia Trice exploded for a career-high 17 points, going 6-for-8 from the floor, in the Falcons' win over Ohio on Feb. 26. Trice scored in double digits three times in 2019-20, with all three coming in the last five games of the year.
• Trice entered that Ohio game averaging 2.4 points per game, but had 9.6 ppg over the final five contests.
WORKING OVERTIME
• The Feb. 29 contest vs. Kent State was the Falcons' fifth overtime game of the year, a new school record. BGSU had played three OT games on four previous occasions – 1981-82 (1-2), 1991-92 (0-3), 2008-09 (3-0) and 2016-17 (1-2).
• For the Falcons, this year marked the first time that four MAC regular-season games have required extra time (the old record was three in '08-09).

• Fun Fact: Even if Parker had taken 12 more three-pointers and missed all of them, she still would have broken the record.
