January 20, 2021 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
Bowling Green, Ohio -- The Mid-American Conference announced its 2020 Men's and Women's Cross Country Academic All-MAC teams Wednesday. To be honored, a student-athlete had to excel both on and off the course, having at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and competing in at least 50 percent of the season's meets. Bowling Green State University tabbed a league-best 12 total student-athletes on this year's squads, with a league-best nine for the women, and three for the men. Additionally, six of the 12 student-athletes boast perfect grade point averages of 4.0, which is second in the conference only to Eastern Michigan's seven.
Redshirt-freshman Kailee Perry headlines the remarkable group of nine Falcons being recognized on the women's side for their success in the classroom. This comes just two months after winning both the Falcon Invitational and MAC Championships, while being named first team All-MAC. She became the fourth individual MAC Champion in program history, and first since 1995. Perry also became one of 11 Falcons in the history of the program to qualify for nationals, and the first to do so since 1998.
Joining Perry on the long list of honorees for the women include senior Jessi Lindstrom, redshirt-junior Megan Aalberts, juniors Sydney Niekamp and Katerina Shuble (who also joined Perry in being named first team All-MAC), sophomores Trinity Fowler, Libbie Gleason, and Elise Johnson, as well as redshirt-freshman Sydnie Firment. Perry is also joined by Gleason, Johnson, and Shuble as having perfect grade point averages of 4.0.
For the men, junior Cesar Arellano leads the group of three after finishing first for the Falcons in the MAC Championships and placing. Joining Arellano are sophomores Joseph Johnson III and Vince Manning. Johnson III and Manning also boast 4.0 grade point averages.
