BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team defeated Central Michigan University in emphatic fashion on Tuesday (Jan. 5) night by a score of 90-69. The Mid-American Conference contest was played inside the friendly confines of the Stroh Center. Bowling Green, now 8-2 in 2020-21 and winners of four straight, is 4-0 in conference play for just the sixth time in program history.
The Falcons led from start-to-finish, hitting a triple in the opening minute and maintaining a lead for the rest of the ballgame. BG led by 10 at the break before leading by as many as 25 points with 5:23 left in regulation. Six players scored in double figures for the Falcons for the first time in eight years.
Bowling Green was led by fifth-year senior Justin Turner, who scored a game-high 17 points and moved past Falcon great Antonio Daniels for fourth place on the program's all-time scoring list.
The Falcons shot 51.4 percent (37-of-72) from the floor and dished out a season-high 19 assists. BGSU will complete a rare home-and-home week within the MAC by taking on the Chippewas at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 9) inside of McGuirk Arena.

TEAM NOTES
• For just the sixth time in program history, Bowling Green is off to a 4-0 start in Mid-American Conference play. Two of those seasons – 2018-19 and 2020-21 – have taken place during the Michael Huger Era. Prior to the most-recent success, BGSU's other 4-0 starts in program history took place in 2004-05, 2002-03, 1974-75 and 1961-62.
• Bowling Green and Toledo are tied atop the Mid-American Conference standings with identical 4-0 records.
• BGSU is 28-12 in conference play over its last 40 league games dating back to 2019.

The Falcons had more paint points (48-42), second-chance points (12-3), fast-break points (21-11) and bench points (34-24).
• Bowling Green dished out a season-high 19 assists, marking the most assists in a game for the program since recording 20 in a road win at Northern Illinois on Feb. 16, 2019. In 2020-21, the Falcons have notched at least 12 assists in 9-of-10 games. On the flip side, the Falcons committed just eight turnovers. In 2020-21, BGSU has committed 10 or fewer turnovers a total of six times.
• Junior guard Caleb Fields hit a three-pointer 49 seconds into the game, and Bowling Green led for the remainder of the contest. The Falcons led for 39:11 of the game's 40 minutes.
• The Falcons registered a season-high five blocks. The five blocks are the most BGSU has had since the 2019-20 season opener. BGSU also had five blocks that night in a win over Tiffin on Nov. 5, 2019. The five blocks are the most for BGSU in a Division I game since posting five versus Miami on Feb. 26, 2019.
• BGSU outscored CMU in the second half by a margin of 44-33. On the season, Bowling Green has scored 467 second-half points while limiting its opponent to 346 second-half points. In 7-of-10 games in 2020-21, the Falcons have scored at least 11 more points than their opposition over the final 20 minutes of regulation.

The native of Detroit has now scored 1,801 points in 104 games in the Orange and Brown. Turner, who made his 100th-career start on the evening, is 138 points away from becoming Bowling Green's all-time leading scorer. Turner has now scored in double figures a total of 90 times in his collegiate career. BG's floor general posted seven assists on the evening and had zero turnovers.

• Junior guard Caleb Fields continued his breakout season with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Six of Fields' 18 double-figure scoring games in his Bowling Green career have come in 2020-21. Fields grabbed five rebounds for the second-straight game, as well.
• BG's three scholarship freshmen – Kaden Metheny, Josiah Fulcher and Cam Young – each scored in double figures and combined for 33 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Young (12 points) and Fulcher (11 points) set career highs in scoring, while Metheny scored 10-plus points for the sixth time this season.
• Senior forward Daeqwon Plowden – along with finishing on a pair of crazy dunks (see below) – registered 10 points and five rebounds. Plowden, who also had three blocks, tied a career high with four assists. Fellow senior Trey Diggs scored an efficient nine points on 4-of-8 shooting.
• Redshirt-sophomore center Dylan Swingle went 3-for-4 from the floor to finish with six points and three rebounds. Junior big man Jacob Washington contributed with two points and three rebounds.
