Jacob Erlandson Named to Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week

Senior defender earns national honor after finding the net in the NIU match
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSU Strategic Communications) – Bowling Green State University men's soccer standout Jacob Erlandson has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer national team of the week, it was announced Tuesday morning (Oct. 19). Erlandson earns the honor for the first time this season and the second time in his Falcon career.
Erlandson, a native of Dayton, Ohio (Dayton Christian), contributed at both ends of the field as the Falcons tied Northern Illinois in a matchup of two top-25 teams on Saturday night (Oct. 16). Erlandson scored the Falcons' goal vs. the Huskies, ending an NIU shutout streak of 714:40 in the process. The Huskies had not allowed a goal since September 7.
At the other end of the field, the senior defender helped the Falcons limit the Huskies – who were ranked third in the nation in goals per game entering the match – to just one goal and nine total shots over 110 minutes.
Erlandson leads the Falcons in goals (five) and points (13) on the season. A transfer from Huntington (Ind.) University, has now has eight goals and 21 points in 25 matches as a Falcon.
BGSU, ranked No. 17 in the nation in the most recent United Soccer Coaches poll, is now 9-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in MAC play. The Falcons are unbeaten after three MAC matches for the third time in six seasons, but for only the fifth time since the conference began sponsoring men's soccer in 1993.
The Falcons return to the pitch on Friday night (Oct. 22), taking on Akron in a key MAC matchup in Northeast Ohio. BGSU then will face Oakland next Tuesday (Oct. 26) before returning home to meet Western Michigan on Saturday night, Oct. 30.
