Fleming Named to Preseason Watch List for 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major P-O-Y Award
October 20, 2021 | Women's Basketball
HOPEWELL, N.J. — Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Lexi Fleming has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award presented by Her Hoop Stats. The 25-member watch list was unveiled on Wednesday morning (Oct. 20).
Fleming, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio (Mercy McAuley), was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year last season, and also was named to the All-MAC Second Team. Fleming is no stranger to Becky Hammon watch lists, as she was one of 15 players, but the only freshman, to be named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Midseason Watch List in January of 2021.
"I am thrilled that Lexi has been named to the Becky Hammon Watch List," said BGSU head coach Robyn Fralick. "Lexi is an absolute gym rat and a fierce competitor. She raises the level of everyone around her every day."
Fleming played in 27 of BGSU's 29 games in 2020-21, starting all 27, and led the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game. She also paced the Falcons in minutes played (33.1 mpg), free throws made (89) and attempted (111), FT percentage (.802), steals (67) and steals per game (2.48) in her initial season in Northwest Ohio.
She made 57 three-point field goals to rank second on the Falcons, and also was fourth on the Falcons in assists (2.52)
Her total of 67 steals was the highest by a freshman in BGSU history and ranked eighth on the overall school single-season list. Fleming also landed on the BGSU single-season lists for steals per game (seventh) and FT percentage (13th).
In just her second year at BGSU, she recently was named a 2021-22 captain by her teammates.
The Becky Hammon Award was first given out in 2020, with South Dakota's Ciara Duffy being named the inaugural winner. FGCU's Kierstan Bell won the award in 2021. This year's preseason watch list includes representatives from 22 schools and 13 conferences.
Â
