BGSU Tops Seawolves, 67-63, Saturday Night
November 22, 2025 | Women's Basketball
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team got contributions from multiple players down the stretch Saturday night (Nov. 22), picking up a 67-63 win over the University of Alaska Anchorage. The game, part of second-day action at the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout, was held at the Alaska Airlines Center.
Junior Paige Kohler scored 10 of her team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, including a bucket with just under a minute to go that gave the Falcons (2-4) the lead for good. Kohler was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore Johnea Donahue had 14 points, while fourth-year Falcons Jasmine Fearne and Emily Siesel scored nine and eight points, respectively. Both Fearne and Siesel were in the starting lineup for the first time in their collegiate careers on Saturday.
After Kohler's hoop gave BG a 64-62 lead, Mylee Anderson split a pair of free throws for the Seawolves with 46.2 seconds to go. The Falcons used a timeout, then used all of the shot clock on the ensuing possession. A shot was off the mark, and for a split second it appeared that a UAA player had corralled the rebound, but Siesel ripped the ball away and was fouled with 16.2 seconds to go. The senior's free throw gave the Falcons a 65-63 advantage.
The ensuing possession saw the hosts miss a shot in the paint, with Ky'Aira Miller tying up a UAA player in the battle for the rebound. The possession arrow favored the Falcons with 8.2 seconds remaining.
Kohler's inbound pass found Donahue, who was fouled and made both free-throw attempts to give the Falcons a four-point lead with 7.4 seconds to go, and a three-point try was off the mark for the Seawolves as the final horn sounded.
Donahue, Fearne and Kohler each had four assists, while Siesel had three assists and a team-leading three steals. Donahue, Fearne and Taya Ellis each had a plus/minus rating of +15 in the win.
FIRST QUARTER
• BGSU got out to a quick start, going 4-for-4 from the floor to start the contest. Paige Kohler kicked the ball to Jasmine Fearne for a three-pointer on the game's first possession, and after a UAA bucket, Emily Siesel beat everyone down the floor, taking a long Johnea Donahue pass and hitting an uncontested layup. When Donahue went the length of the floor for a layup after a turnover, BG had a 7-2 lead with less than a minute gone.
• A Siesel steal resulted in Fearne spotting Kohler for a three-ball and a 10-4 advantage, and a pair of Kohler layups helped give the Falcons a 16-8 lead. The hosts cut that lead to three on an Elaina Mack triple and a Mahaila Harrison transition layup.
• Kohler drove and scored, and Donahue hit a reverse layup after a near-turnover. When Fearne knocked down a free-throw try after a UAA technical foul, the Falcons had a 23-20 lead.
SECOND QUARTER
• Kohler found Lauren Gerken for a bucket to begin the second-period scoring, but the Seawolves then went on a 6-0 run, taking the lead on a Faith Mersburgh layup. Sofia Moschen's putback snapped that run, and after a Ky'Aira Miller steal, Fearne's pass found Siesel for a trailing three and a 30-27 lead.
• The Seawolves came right back with a three, before a long pass from Siesel resulted in a layup for Fearne, who had gotten behind the defense for a 32-30 lead.
• With just under a minute to go, Harrison's layup gave UAA the lead, but Siesel hit Donahue for a pull-up jumper with 15 seconds left before halftime, knotting the score at 34-34.
THIRD QUARTER
• Taya Ellis was fouled and made two free throws with just under two minutes gone in the second half, but a driving layup by Anderson tied the score. Jaedyn Cook hit a baby hook shot, but Mack answered with a three-pointer, then – after over two minutes of scoreless basketball – knocked down a turnaround jumper.
• Anderson hit a short-corner jumper, and a long Mack three-pointer gave the hosts a 10-0 run and an 11-point lead, 49-38. Joniyah Bland-Fitzpatrick's free throws ended that run, and after Anderson hit a pair of charity tosses, Donahue found Gerken for a three-pointer in the final minute of the period, getting BG within eight.
FOURTH QUARTER
• A nifty pass by Fearne led to a Bland-Fitzpatrick layup, and Kohler sank a driving layup. But, UAA was answering at the other end, as Harrison made two free throws, then a layup. Two Anderson tosses restored the Seawolves' double-digit lead with 7:30 to go.
• Donahue hit a pair of free throws of her own, and a nifty driving and-one layup by Kohler cut the deficit to five, 57-52, with 6:32 on the clock.
• Anderson scored on a runner, but Donahue's defensive rebound and long pass ahead to Siesel resulted in a layup, and a Donahue pull-up jumper made it a three-point game. And, with just under four minutes to go, Fearne took a Kohler pass and drained a three-point try that tied the score, 59-59.
• Anderson scored on an uncontested layup, but Ellis kicked the ball to Kohler for a three-ball that put the Falcons up by one with 3:15 to go. Neither team scored again until Lillee Duffin split a pair of free-throw attempts to tie the score, 62-62, with 1:23 remaining, setting the stage for Kohler's go-ahead bucket, Siesel's key rebound and all of the other information mentioned in the opening paragraphs.
UP NEXT
• After playing the first six games of the season away from home, BGSU will play the next six contests inside the friendly confines of the Stroh Center. The season-long homestand begins next Sunday (Nov. 30), when the Falcons host Purdue Fort Wayne in a 2:00 p.m. start.
