CENTURY MARK
• In Wednesday night's (Dec. 3) win over Kentucky State, BGSU reached the 100-point mark for the first time since January of 2023, and the 29th time in school history.
• BGSU's 103 points vs. the Thorobreds marks the Falcons' highest-ever point total at the Stroh Center, and the highest total in any game in over two decades (since a 115-84 win at then-IPFW in November of 2004). BG had not scored as many as 103 points in a home game in more than 30 years (since a 108-91 win over Kent State in January of 1994 at venerable Anderson Arena).
• The school record for points in a game is 127, vs. Valparaiso in January of 1992 at "The House That Roars."
• The complete list of BG's 100-point games can be found on page 15 of the PDF version of these notes.
FALCONS PITCH A FIRST-QUARTER SHUTOUT
• The Falcons posted a first-quarter shutout in Wednesday night's Kentucky State game. BGSU led the Thorobreds by a 27-0 count after 10 minutes.
• It marked the second time in program history that BGSU had held an opponent scoreless in a quarter. The Falcons blanked Detroit Mercy in the second period on Nov. 28, 2022, en route to a 78-29 win at the Stroh.
LAST TIME OUT: FIRST-PERIOD SHUTOUT PROPELS FALCONS TO 71-POINT WIN
• BGSU pitched a shutout in the first quarter Wednesday night (Dec. 3), as the Falcons rolled along to a 103-32 win over Kentucky State at the Stroh Center.
• The Falcons (4-4) took a 27-0 lead into the quarter break, before the Thorobreds finally got on the scoreboard on the opening possession of the second period. Then, the Orange and Brown scored the game's next nine points to take a 36-2 lead midway through the quarter.
• BGSU led by scores of 55-8 at the half and 78-18 after three quarters en route to the 71-point victory.
• Twelve different players scored at least four points for the hosts, with Taya Ellis posting game-high totals of 14 points and nine rebounds. Johnea Donahue had 13 points, five assists and eight steals, with all eight steals coming in the first half.
• Sofia Moschen had 12 points, the highest total of her young career, in 14 minutes off the bench, while Paige Kohler scored 11 points in the win.
A FEW MORE NOTES FROM THE KENTUCKY STATE GAME
• The Falcons allowed just eight points in the first half vs. Kentucky State, a new school record. The old record was nine points scored by Miami in a 66-53 BGSU win at the Stroh on Jan. 24, 2015.
• Johnea Donahue had eight steals on Wednesday night, tying her career high and falling just two shy of the school record (10 by Lindsay Austin vs. Miami on Feb. 3, 2004). Donahue played a total of just 21:11 vs. the Thorobreds, and had all eight of her steals in the first half.
• BGSU's total of 45 free-throw attempts is tied for the third-highest single-game total in program history. The school record is 53 attempts, vs. Youngstown State on Feb. 18, 1990.
UNPACK THOSE BAGS
• The Falcons definitely racked up the frequent flyer miles during the month of November, as BGSU opened the 2025-26 season with six consecutive games away from home.
• That six-game odyssey included trips to the states of Louisiana, South Carolina (to face the #2/2-ranked Gamecocks), and Wisconsin, before BGSU headed all the way to Alaska for a pair of games in the ASRC/ConocoPhillips Great Alaska Shootout.
• Now, the Falcons play six consecutive home games, the longest regular-season homestand in program history. BGSU defeated Purdue Fort Wayne last Sunday (Nov. 30), and Kentucky State Wednesday (Dec. 3). The Orange and Brown also will meet Defiance (Dec. 7), Lourdes (Dec. 14), Le Moyne (Dec. 16) and Kent State (Dec. 20) during the home swing.
• BGSU did play six-straight games at the Stroh in 2014, but the first four came in the WNIT in March of that year, before the Falcons began the 2014-15 regular-season schedule with a pair of November home games.
• Prior to this season, the Falcons' longest-ever regular-season homestand was five games, which occurred on two occasions – Jan. 22 to Feb. 3, 1982; and Dec. 30, 2012, to Jan. 16, 2013.
BLOCK PARTY
• Junior Taya Ellis has blocked 11 shots in eight games this season to date, and ranks second in the MAC in blocks per game (1.38).
• Ellis is rapidly moving up the BGSU career blocks list. She now has 53 rejections in 61 career games, and has moved into a tie for 15th on that BG chart. And, she is currently fourth in school history with 0.82 blocks per game as a Falcon.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE YELLOW JACKETS
• Defiance is 3-7 overall, and the Yellow Jackets are 0-4 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. DC suffered a 96-44 loss at Eastern Michigan Friday evening (Dec. 5), in a game that was an exhibition for the Jackets. Sunday's BGSU game will also count as an exhibition for Defiance.
• Individually, Taylor Haynes and Kayla Houston are are averaging 12.0 and 10.5 points per game, respectively. Both players have 5.1 rebounds per game, and are tied for second on the team behind Jourdyn Wynn (8.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg) in that category.
• Head coach Courtney Peay welcomed back three starters from the 2024-25 team that went 3-24 overall and 1-19 in WHAC action.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Defiance, 6-1, in the all-time series, and BGSU has won the last five meetings. The teams have not met in nearly 44 years. BG and DC faced off in seven consecutive seasons from 1975-76 to '81-82, with the most recent matchup being a 76-55 BGSU triumph on Jan. 12, 1982, at venerable Anderson Arena. According to the BG News, sophomore Cary McGehee led the Falcons with 14 points, while juniors Melissa Chase, Sue Pokelsek and Chris Tuttle all scored 12. Defiance's Darcy Robinson led all scorers with 18 points.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Defiance matchup, the Falcons' six-game homestand will continue with next Sunday's (Dec. 14) contest vs. Defiance. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will play Le Moyne (Dec. 16) and Kent State (Dec. 20), with the game vs. the Golden Flashes opening the Mid-American Conference portion of the schedule. BGSU's next road game is Dec. 30 at Eastern Michigan.
