BGSU sophomore striker earns another honor after MVP performance
Bowling Green State University women's soccer standout Lacee Bethea has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 10). Bethea earns the honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Earlier this week, Bethea was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, and earned honorable mention on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Bethea, a native of Lexington, Ohio (Lexington), was named the MVP of the Mid-American Conference Tournament after helping the Falcons win the tourney title for the fourth consecutive season. Bethea scored a goal in each of BGSU's two wins en route to the crown.
She had the winning goal on Thursday (Nov. 4), with the lone marker of the contest in BG's 1-0 victory over Buffalo in the semifinals. Then, on Sunday (Nov. 7), Bethea scored the clinching goal as the Falcons downed Kent State, 3-0, in the championship match.
On the season, Bethea has seven goals for the Falcons.
In the classroom, Bethea has a 3.36 cumulative grade-point average as a criminal justice major.
The Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete each week. Nominees must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must have performed well during the previous week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
BGSU (11-6-3, 8-2-1 MAC) won both the league regular-season and tournament crowns, and will head to Ann Arbor to face #8/9 Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Championships on Friday evening.
