Willis, Falcons Add Five to Program

Bowling Green State University softball coach Sarah Willis has announced the addition of five student-athletes to the program. Ashley Chevalier (Powell, Ohio), Delaney Davis (Washington, Ill.), Marti Henkel (Dublin, Ohio), Hannah Hunt (Pataskala, Ohio) and Mackenzie Krafcik (Aurora, Ohio) have joined the Falcon family and will attend BGSU beginning in the fall of 2022.

ASHLEY CHEVALIER | SS | Powell, Ohio | Olentangy Liberty H.S.
• A varsity starter since her freshman year
• Three-time captain of her high-school team
• Hit .473 last spring as a junior, helping the Patriots win the 2021 league (OCC) championship
• Had a perfect fielding percentage in league games
• Plays travel ball for Ohio Outlaws Premier - Young
• Hit .385 for the Outlaws this past summer
• Three-time Scholar-Athlete
• Has made the honor roll every year since sixth grade, and earned National Honor Society accolades as a junior

"Ashley is a tremendous athlete that can play the field anywhere. She brings a level of intensity and joy that is hard to find and a real ability to positively impact teammates. Offensively, Ashley is fun to watch. The competitor comes out in the box and she brings great power at the plate. Her versatility as an athlete is what's most impressive."
DELANEY DAVIS | OF | Washington, Ill. | Washington Community H.S.
• Will earn her fourth letter in softball this season
• Helped the Panthers reach the Illinois High School State Association (IHSSA) Class 3A Elite 8 this past spring
• Led the team in stolen bases and runs scored
• Has also earned three volleyball letters, helping that team to a 2021 Regional Championship and a school-record win total
• Has played travel softball for Peoria Sluggers 16U and 18U Gold Trotter

"I am excited to ink Delaney to the 2022 recruiting class. She has the speed and ability to steal hits defensively and will undoubtedly contribute to the offense with her speed. Â I am eager to get her to campus and see what she can grow and develop on top of the tools she already has."
MARTI HENKEL | C | Dublin, Ohio | Dublin Coffman H.S.
• A First-Team All-OCC selection who also earned all-district honors
• Hit .422 for the Shamrocks last season
• Will earn her fourth letter for the Rocks this spring
• Threw out 50% of the opponents who attempted to steal against her last season
• Plays travel ball for Ohio Outlaws Premier - Young
• Hit .400 for the Outlaws
• Has won both the Golden Shamrock award and the Celebration of Excellence award
• Also was a Borlaug Scholar award winner, presented by Global and Ohio Youth Institute/ World Food Prize and Ohio State UniversityÂ
• Has made the honor roll every year since sixth grade

"Marti is a talented catcher with a strong softball IQ and tremendous leadership qualities. Her work ethic and grit behind the dish will provide strength to the program's defense and guidance of the pitching staff. We are excited for her addition to the program."
HANNAH HUNT | SS | Pataskala, Ohio | Watkins Memorial H.S.
• A First-Team All-Ohio selection after helping the Warriors to a state runner-up finish in Division I
• Also was an all-state honoree by USA Today
• Was the league (LCL) Player of the Year, and was named to the all-league, all-metro and all-district first teams
• Currently owns no fewer than eight school records
• Set the school single-season records for hits (69 - fourth in the state), doubles (19), home runs (12) and runs scored (64)
• Owns the career records for hits (108), triples (18), homers (19) and runs (101)
• Plays travel ball for Ohio Hawks Hutchinson Gold, and leads that team in batting average, hits and RBI

"Hannah is a talented shortstop that has the arm, glove, range, and IQ for the next level. She is a confident ballplayer who demonstrates real leadership qualities and will help to guide the Falcon defense. She brings a big bat with consistent power and has the ability to hit at the top of the order. Â I am expecting early contributions offensively."
MACKENZIE KRAFCIK | P | Aurora, Ohio | Aurora H.S.
• Varsity starter since her freshman season
• Led the Lady Greenmen to the Suburban League title as a junior in 2021
• Hit over .500 last season, en route to first-team all-league honors
• Won the Jennie Finch Award
• A Top-3 softball finalist for Top Athlete in Portage County in 2021
• Plays travel ball for Ohio Outlaws Premier '04 Young
• A four-year Scholar Athlete, and an Honor Roll Student since sixth grade
• Also a member of Student Council as well as Drug Free Club
COACH WILLIS ON KRAFCIK
"I am excited to add Mack to our pitching staff in 2022 and to begin working with her once she arrives on campus. Her aptitude, work ethic, and build as a pitcher provides a high ceiling for her in the circle. The possibilities for Mack as a pitcher in our program are vast and it will be exciting to see how she grows and develops once in the day-to-day grind."

BGSU ended the 2021 season with an overall record of 27-27, and the Falcons went 19-20 in MAC action. BG, picked to finish eighth in the MAC in the preseason coaches' poll, ended the season in fifth place in the 11-team league. BGSU was one of two conference teams to finish as many as three places higher than predicted.
The Falcons finished with the program's highest winning percentage in MAC play since 2012, and BGSU's overall total of 27 wins is the highest since the 2013 campaign.
