BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program was narrowly edged by Kent State University, 71-67, on Tuesday (Feb. 9) evening. Bowling Green drops to 10-9 (6-7 MAC) on the season with the loss. The Mid-American Conference game was played inside of the Stroh Center and televised on CBS Sports Network.
The Falcons trailed by as many as 10 points, but turned a six-point halftime deficit into a back-and-forth contest over the final 20 minutes. Bowling Green took the lead midway through the second half, but ultimately didn't make enough key plays down the stretch. A layup as the shot clock expired put the game out of reach and gave KSU a four-point edge with just under 25 seconds to play.
Seniors Trey Diggs and Justin Turner led the Falcons with 18 points apiece. Diggs, in his second season in the Orange and Brown, surpassed 1,000 collegiate points on the evening. Turner scored 16 of his 18 points in the game over the final 20 minutes of regulation.
Freshman Kaden Metheny had a strong showing, posting seven points, four rebounds and four assists while only committing one turnover. Sophomore Chandler Turner registered four points and a career-high seven rebounds. Junior Jacob Washington added five points and two rebounds.
COACH HUGER QUOTE
"The front ends of one-and-ones really hurt you. I thought we fought hard throughout the game. We gave ourselves a chance to win the game and that's all I can ask for. We have to get over the hump and we have to win one."
