Tavpash, Kapitanova Named MAC Doubles Team Of The Week
March 11, 2021 | Women's Tennis
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced Thursday (March 11) the MAC Honors for tennis for the past week of competition. Of those named, Bowling Green saw the senior duo of Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Yulia Kapitanova named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week. This comes after the Falcons bested Cleveland State last Friday (March 5) in a 4-3 final. For Tavpash, this is her sixth time being named to the MAC Doubles Team of the Week in her career. As for Kapitanova, this is her first time being named.Â
The Bowling Green senior doubles duo of Tavpash and Kapitanova helped the Falcons win the doubles point in a close match against Cleveland State on Friday that ended in a 4-3 final. Tavpash and Kapitanova played No. 1 doubles and were able to come away with a 6-1 final after jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the set. The win marked the first of two en route to the doubles point that proved pivotal in the 4-3 victory.Â
With the doubles win, Tavpash also moved up the all-time list for career doubles wins, now with 80. The mark moved her past her former doubles partner, Paula Comella, who she won the other five MAC Doubles Team of the Week awards with, while also tying her with Emily Reuland for fifth all-time.Â
Tavpash and Kapitanova, along with the rest of the Falcon tennis team, will be back in action this weekend as the team opens up conference play within the MAC. The schedule will begin against Northern Illinois on Friday (March 12) before moving to Western Michigan on Sunday (March 14) with both matches set to be on the road and 1 p.m. starts.Â
