Wolfbauer, Shea Sweep MAC Weekly Awards
March 23, 2021 | Women's Soccer
Duo helped Falcons to 2-0-0 record last week
After a pair of wins at Cochrane Stadium last week, a pair of Bowling Green State University women's soccer standouts have been recognized by the league office. Madi Wolfbauer and Audrey Shea have been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. The Players of the Week were announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon (March 23).
Both Wolfbauer and Shea earn conference weekly honors for the first time in their BGSU careers.
Additionally, earlier on Tuesday, Wolfbauer earned honorable mention on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week.
Wolfbauer, a native of Canton, Mich. (Canton), scored three goals as the Falcons went 2-0-0 on the week. Wolfbauer scored her first collegiate goal in Thursday night's 2-0 win over Miami, converting a penalty kick in the 57th minute for the Falcons' second goal of the evening.
Then, on Sunday, Wolfbauer had the first two-goal match of her collegiate career in the Falcons' 5-0 victory over Kent State. The redshirt junior was an offensive threat in both games, with totals of nine shot attempts and six shots on goal in the two games. BGSU outshot the RedHawks and Golden Flashes by a combined 42-5.
At the other end of the pitch, Shea anchored a BGSU defense that posted two shutouts at Cochrane. A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio (Bishop Watterson), she helped the Falcons limit the RedHawks and Flashes to just five shots, and only two shots on goal.
Shea was the only Falcon to play all 90 minutes in both of last week's matches. She has been at the center-back spot for nearly every minute this season, as BGSU has kept four clean sheets in five matches so far this season.
The Falcons (4-1-0, 4-1-0 MAC) begin the second half of the MAC schedule next Sunday (March 28), heading to Athens for a 2:00 p.m. match vs. Ohio. Then, BGSU will return to Cochrane for contests vs. Akron (April 1) and Buffalo (April 4).
