Madisen Parker to Return for 2021-22 Season
April 14, 2021 | Women's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Madisen Parker will use her extra year of eligibility and return to the Falcon program for the 2021-22 academic year. Parker, one of the top three-point shooters in school history, has scored 790 career points over her first four seasons.
"Parker exemplifies the core values of our program," said BGSU head coach Robyn Fralick. "She is a hard worker, team-first and an incredible leader. She sets a great example every day. We are so fortunate she is staying another season."Â
A native of Fort Wayne, Ind. (Homestead HS), Parker has played in 116 career games, making 35 starts as a Falcon, and ranks fifth in school history with 201 three-point field goals made. A team captain in 2020-21, she averaged 7.4 points per game and helped the Falcons to a Mid-American Conference regular-season title, a berth in the WNIT and one of the top turnarounds in the nation this past season.
"Bowling Green has completely stolen my heart," said Parker. "I love this community, school, and the women's basketball program. When presented with the opportunity to stay another year, I was thrilled. I'm excited to continue to work and grow with this awesome group of people!"
After averaging 1.5 points in just over five minutes per game as a freshman in 2017-18, Parker was one of the team's top players off the bench as a sophomore. She averaged 5.4 points per game and shot 39.0 percent from the arc, making 39-of-100 long-distance attempts. She was named to the Academic All-MAC Team, and also was the recipient of BGSU's Great Teammate Award.
Then, in 2019-20, Parker led the entire nation in three-point field-goal percentage. She started all 31 games that season, averaging 12.1 points per contest, and she set school records for both three-point field goals made and three-point FG percentage. Parker went 98-of-204 from the arc, shooting 48.0% from long distance. She was ranked among the top-10 players in the nation in three three-point categories, ranking sixth in the country in total triples made and ninth in three-pointers made per game (3.16).
Parker led the 2019-20 Falcons in minutes per game (32.6), and hit double digits in scoring 18 times, with six games of 20 points or more. She was named to the Academic All-MAC Team for the second-straight season, and became the first Falcon in five years to be named to the Academic All-District First Team, selected by CoSIDA.
Parker also was named BGSU's Female Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, an honor that is bestowed upon just one female in the junior class across all sports.
This past season, with an influx of young talent on the roster, Parker transitioned to a role off the bench, and flourished in that role. She played in all 29 games, making two starts, and averaged 7.4 points per game. Parker went 58-for-129 from three-point range, ranking 39th in the country in three-pointers made.
One year after leading the entire nation in three-point field-goal accuracy, Parker ranked 11th in the country in that category in 2020-21, hitting 45.0% of her shots from beyond the arc. She ended the season ranked third nationally among active career leaders in three-point percentage, with a 43.7% career success rate, a mark that has her on pace to break that school record.
Most importantly, as mentioned, Parker helped the 2020-21 Falcons win the MAC's regular-season title and return to national postseason play. The Falcons, picked to finish 11th in the 12-team conference in the preseason coaches' poll, went 21-8 overall and 14-4 in league play. BGSU more than quadrupled the MAC win total from the previous season.
Parker, a middle childhood education major, is working toward completion of the Middle Childhood Generalist Endorsement, and will be completing her student teaching in the fall, in an area fourth-grade classroom.
