Indianapolis, Ind. – Bowling Green State University alumna Lauren Sullivan has been named a recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and will receive a one-time non-renewable $10,000 scholarship as she attends Northeastern University to earn her masters degree in speech language pathology.
"I am so honored and humbled to have received this scholarship," Sullivan said. "BGSU has provided me with so many great resources that have prepared me to succeed in graduate school. The academic advisors in the athletics department have been incredibly supportive and have introduced me to many new experiences which have provided me with confidence to take on graduate school.
"Receiving this scholarship means so much to me because I now get to attend Northeastern University and I will be able to pursue both an academic and an athletic coaching career. I am excited to take on the journey of earning my masters degree in Boston! Additionally, as I pursue a career in coaching as a graduate assistant, it is wonderful to know that the NCAA supports this goal as well."
Sullivan graduated from Bowling Green with a 4.0 grade point average, majoring in communication sciences and disorders, with a minor in psychology. She served as a member of the SAAC executive board, NSSLHA, undergraduate student government, and completed two individual research studies.
"Lauren is certainly worthy of this prestigious honor," Donna Trautman, one of BGSU's Faculty Athletics Representatives, said. "Lauren is a wonderful example of an NCAA and BGSU student-athlete who utilized her education to push the limits and succeed. Her academic record demonstrates her overall credibility and promise for the future. What a list of accolades! It is so rewarding to see such an accomplished young woman go on to advance her education with the help of this scholarship."
The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually and are given to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in at least their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. In each sports season, the NCAA gives 21 scholarships for men and 21 for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
"We are so proud of Lauren and celebrate all of her accomplishments while a member of our swimming and diving program," Chet Hesson, Associate Athletics Director for Academics and Student-Athlete Services, said. "Throughout Lauren's career, she has been an outstanding swimmer, but even more than that, she is an outstanding person. Her participation in student government, including leadership, being a top swimmer within the conference, maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout her time at BGSU, and acceptance into a top-notch graduate program is extremely well deserved. This postgraduate scholarship is the culmination of hard work and resiliency. Congratulations Lauren, the best is yet to come!"
