Falcons Land 16 on Academic All-MAC Team
August 12, 2021 | Women's Track and Field
CLEVELAND, Ohio – No fewer than 16 members of the Bowling Green State University outdoor track and field program have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team, announced by the league office on Thursday morning (Aug. 12).
The Falcons' lengthy list includes Megan Aalberts, Chasatea Brown, Kaila Butler, Ryen Draper, Destiny Fernandes, Jemeila Hunter, Elise Johnson, Jessi Lindstrom, Zaresha Neal, Sydney Niekamp, Kailee Perry, Brianna Richard, Riley Robertson, Hannah Shoemaker, Katerina Shuble and Ebonie Whitted.
Five of the 16 BGSU honorees – Butler, Johnson, Perry, Robertson and Shuble – currently maintain a perfect 4.000 cumulative grade point average. That is the highest total among all MAC schools.
The Academic All-MAC team honor is bestowed upon a student-athlete who has excelled in both athletics and academics. To qualify, said student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior-college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
BGSU placed a total of 160 student-athletes – a school record by far – on Academic All-MAC Teams in the 2020-21 academic year. When hockey's honorees are added in, a total of 180 BG student-athletes were named to an academic all-conference team in '20-21.
