FASCINATING FALCON FACTS & FIGURES
• BGSU enters the Kent State match with an overall record of 5-4-3, and the Falcons are 3-1-2 in MAC play. BG scored eight goals last week, capturing 4-0 decisions both at Akron and at home vs. preseason MAC favorite Ohio.
• Senior Kennedy White had a hat trick in Thursday's win over the Zips. It was her fourth multiple-goal match as a Falcon, with all four coming this season.
• White's hat trick was the first by a BGSU player in nearly four years, since Erica Hubert scored three times at Buffalo on Oct. 21, 2018.
• White now has 11 goals this season. White, who had 10 goals as a freshman in 2019, is just the third player in BGSU history with multiple seasons of double-digit goals. BGSU Hall-of-Famer Kristy Coppes scored 10 or more goals in all four of her years, while Hubert, like White, had a double-digit goal total in two seasons.
• White's game-winning goal at Akron was the ninth of her career. She is now tied for second on that BGSU career list. Coppes holds the record with 14 career GWG, while Nikki Cox (2018-21) and Corbie Yee (2005-08) each had nine.
• Overall, White leads the Falcons with 11 goals and 23 points on the season. White has eight goals in BGSU's six MAC matches. She leads the MAC in both goals and points, both overall and in conference games.
• White now has 26 career goals, and has moved past former teammate Nikki Cox (24 goals from 2018-21) into fifth place on that BGSU career list.
• White now has 60 career points as a Falcon, and has moved into ninth place on that BGSU chart.
• Freshman Brynn Gardner is second on the team in scoring, with 12 points on three goals and a team-leading six assists. Gardner had a goal and an assist against Ohio after assisting on White's first goal at UA.
• Maya Dean is third on the team with nine points, and she is second on the Falcons in assists, with five. Dean, like White, had seven points last week, and she has been involved in the scoring of seven of BGSU's last 10 goals.
• Lacee Bethea has four points this fall, while Katie Cox, Abby Koly and Alaina Uncapher each have three.
• Koly and Gardner each scored against Ohio Sunday. It marked the first time two freshmen scored in a match in nearly three years, since Nov. 3, 2019 (White and Makenzie Ortman).
• Senior Lili Berg has started all 12 matches in goal this season, and has 51 saves and a 1.15 goals-against average. With a pair of clean sheets last week, Berg now has been part of 21 shutouts in 41 career starts with the Falcons.
• In both of last week's wins, every field player who dressed for the match saw playing time.
• A total of 15 different players have started at least one match for the Falcons this season. Six Falcons – Berg, Cox, Dean, White, Lexi Czerwien and Mackenzie Reuber – have started all 12 matches to date.
• BGSU was picked to finish second in the MAC in 2022, according to the preseason coaches poll. The Falcons also were picked to place second last fall, but wound up winning both the regular-season and tournament titles.
• A total of 23 players have seen action for the Falcons this fall, with no fewer than 21 of them having played in at least seven of the 12 matches to date.
THE OPPONENTS
• Kent State has an overall record of 3-6-4, and the Golden Flashes enter Thursday's BGSU match with a MAC mark of 3-1-2. KSU, one of three teams (along with BG) tied for third in the league, beat Eastern Michigan, 4-2, before battling Miami to a 1-1 draw last week. Alisa Arthur leads the team with 10 points and is one of three Flashes with three goals. Sarah Melen has started all 13 matches and has 44 saves, three shutouts and a 1.49 goals-against average. Head coach Rob Marinaro and the Golden Flashes finished with records of 13-5-3 overall and 7-1-3 in the MAC last fall.
• Buffalo is 10-1-2 overall, and the Bulls sit atop the MAC, with a 4-0-2 league ledger heading into a Thursday home match vs. Northern Illinois. The Bulls tied Miami (0-0) before beating EMU (3-0) last week. Arianna Zumpano and Jasmine Guerber have 15 and 14 points, respectively, and have combined for 13 goals. Emily Kelly has started all 13 matches in goal and has eight shutouts, 38 saves and a GAA of just 0.39. Last year, Shawn Burke's club finished 13-4-3 overall and 6-2-3 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• BGSU leads Kent State, 18-7-5, in the all-time series, and the Falcons have won the last seven meetings. BGSU is 9-2-5 in home games and 9-5-0 in road meetings with KSU through the years.
• The Falcons lead Buffalo, 18-10-1, in that series. The teams split 1-0 decisions at Cochrane last year, with UB taking the regular-season meeting (Oct. 21, 2021) and the Falcons winning in the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament (Nov. 4, 2021). BGSU is 13-5-0 at home, 4-5-1 on the road and 1-0-0 at neutral sites vs. the Bulls.
