Dean named MAC Offensive Player of the Week; Reuber lands on Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week
A pair of Bowling Green State University women's soccer standouts have been recognized for their play in last week's two wins. Maya Dean has been named the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Mackenzie Reuber has been chosen to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week. Both honors were announced on Tuesday (Oct. 25).
Dean earned the MAC's Offensive P-O-W award for the second time in her career, and the second time in three weeks. She also earned the honor on Oct. 11.
Reuber has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week for the second time this season, having been similarly honored on Sept. 13.
Dean, a native of Traverse City, Mich. (West), had yet another solid week as the Falcons went 2-0 to move into third place in the league standings. Dean scored the lone goal of the match on Thursday (Oct. 20) against Miami, helping the Falcons keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over the RedHawks at Cochrane Stadium.
Then, on Sunday (Oct. 23), Dean had a goal and an assist as the Falcons posted a comprehensive 7-1 win on the road against Eastern Michigan. Dean played 63 minutes in that win, and was not on the field when EMU, trailing by six goals, got on the scoreboard in the 78th minute.
On the season, Dean has 14 points including four goals and six assists. All 14 points have come in MAC play.
Reuber, a native of Macomb, Mich. (Macomb Lutheran North), was solid at both ends of the field in the two BGSU wins. The defender helped the Falcons keep a clean sheet against Miami, and had the assist on Dean's goal, firing a free kick into the penalty area before Dean converted.
On Sunday, Reuber scored her first goal of the season on a blast from approximately 30Â yards out, giving the Falcons a 3-0 lead early in the second half against the Eagles. Reuber, like Dean, was no longer on the field when the Eagles got on the scoreboard.
Reuber now has five points this season and 16 in her BGSU career. She has now played in 89 career matches, and if she takes the field in BGSU's next match, she will tie that school career record.Â
That next match is scheduled for Thursday (Oct. 27), as Dean, Reuber and the Falcons (7-5-4, 5-2-3 MAC) head to DeKalb, Ill., to face Northern Illinois in the final regular-season contest. BGSU has clinched a MAC Tournament berth, and the date, opponent and site of the first tourney match will be determined by Thursday's matches around the conference.
