WINNING THE TURNOVER BATTLE
• The Falcons committed just seven turnovers against Wright State, tied for the fourth-lowest single-game total in school history. The Falcons have turned the ball over 16 times or fewer in each of the four games so far, and BG is averaging 11.5 turnovers per game.
• Meanwhile, BGSU has forced the opponent into 18 or more turnovers in every game. Falcon foes are averaging 22.3 turnovers per contest.
THE FALCONS – A QUICK OVERVIEW
• The Falcons are 3-1 on the young season. BGSU posted double-digit wins over St. Bonaventure and Wright State, before falling to #9/12 Indiana, 96-61, on Thursday night (Nov. 17) in Bloomington. The Falcons bounced back with a 100-74 victory at Southern Indiana Saturday afternoon (Nov. 19).
• Head coach Robyn Fralick and her staff welcomed back a total of 10 student-athletes from last year's team. That group includes four starters from the 2021-22 season, plus a fifth player who started in 2020-21 before missing all of '21-22 due to injury.
• Last season, the Falcons – despite losing nearly 75 player-games to injury – won 17 games and advanced to national postseason play for the second-straight season. BGSU went 17-16 overall and 10-10 in Mid-American Conference play, and the Falcons were selected to participate in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI). BG went 2-1 in that tourney, finishing the '21-22 season with a victory.
• Four games into the season, Elissa Brett leads the Falcons in both scoring and rebounding, with 15.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Allison Day and Morgan Sharps each have 10.5 ppg. Day is second on the team with 5.3 rpg, while Sharps has hit a team-high 11 three-pointers and is shooting 40.7 percent from the arc.
• Nyla Hampton has 10.0 ppg and a team-high 3.5 steals per outing, with Jocelyn Tate averaging 9.8 ppg to date. Brett, Day, Hampton, Sharps and Tate each have started all four games this season.
• Lexi Fleming and Sophie Dziekan have 7.8 and 6.8 ppg, respectively. Fleming is shooting 50% from the arc (6-for-12) through four games, while Dziekan has gone 12-of-18 (66.7%) from the floor this year to date.
HAMPTON'S DEFENSE LEADS TO OFFENSE
• Nyla Hampton averaged nearly nine points per contest for the Falcons last season. But, Hampton made her presence felt at both ends of the court, Hampton had at least three steals in a game 17 times last year.
• Hampton had 86 steals last season, the fourth-highest total in BGSU history. She ranked second in the MAC and 17th in the nation in that category. With 2.69 steals per contest, Hampton finished third in the league and 23rd in the country.
• This season, Hampton has a team-high 14 steals through four games. She tied her career high with six steals in this year's opener at SBU, adding five more against WSU.
• Hampton now has 156 steals in 60 career games played, an average of 2.60 per game. She is on pace to set the school career records for both total steals and steals per contest.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE NORSE
• Northern Kentucky, like BGSU, is 3-1 on the season. The Norse will enter Wednesday's contest on a two-game winning streak, including Sunday's 75-53 victory over Tennessee Tech. NKU beat Lipscomb and Dayton in games that each required two or more overtime periods, and lost at Kent State.
• Lindsey Duvall leads the Norse with 23.5 points per game, and was named Horizon League Player of the Week on Monday. Duvall is averaging a double-double, with 10.5 rebounds per game. Kailee Davis and Ivy Turner have 16.3 and 11.3 ppg, respectively.
• Head coach Camryn Whitaker welcomed back 10 letterwinners, including four starters, from a year ago. The 2021-22 Norse went 21-8 overall and 14-6 in the Horizon League. NKU was picked to finish fourth in the HL in the preseason coaches poll, with Duvall selected to the preseason all-league first team.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Northern Kentucky, 2-0, in the all-time series, and the Falcons picked up a 63-49 road win over the Norse two years ago (Dec. 3, 2020). Prior to that game, the teams had not met in nearly four decades, since a 78-50 BG home win in December of 1982. BGSU is 1-0 in home games (0-0 at the Stroh) and 1-0 in road contests vs. the Norse over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the NKU game, the Falcons will be back at the Stroh on Monday (Nov. 28), hosting Detroit Mercy in a 7:00 p.m. start. The Titans are coached by BGSU Hall of Famer Kate Achter, and former Falcon Andrea Cecil is also on the UDM staff.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will play five consecutive games away from home, beginning with a matchup at Valparaiso on Friday, Dec. 2. BGSU's lone December game at the Stroh will be against Findlay on Friday, Dec. 30.
