THE OPENING TIP – STREAKS, STORYLINES AND SIDEBARS
• BGSU begins the month of February with three road games in a four-game stretch. All told, the Falcons are scheduled to play 10 games in a 25-day span during the calendar year's shortest month.
• The Falcons saw a two-game win streak snapped with Saturday's (Jan. 29) 71-67 loss to first-place Toledo at the Stroh Center. Freshman Amy Velasco scored 21 points, the highest total of her young career, in her first-ever 'Battle of I-75.'
• Senior Kadie Hempfling, who scored the 1,000th point of her career in last Wednesday's (Jan. 26) win over Western Michigan, reached yet another milestone three days later. Hempfling pulled down her 700th rebound as a Falcon in the UT game.
• Through Saturday's game, Morgan Sharps leads the MAC – and is second in the nation – in three-point field-goal percentage. She has hit 48.4% of her long-distance shots this season.
• BGSU is now 18-8 in MAC regular-season games since the start of the 2020-21 season, after going 8-46 in the previous three seasons (2017-18 to '19-20). That 18-8 record includes an 11-4 mark at the Stroh and a 7-4 ledger in league road games.
• Since the beginning of the '20-21 campaign, BGSU has posted at least one win over 10 of the other 11 MAC teams. The only program the Falcons have not beaten in that time is Wednesday's opponent, Northern Illinois. The Huskies won both of last season's meetings, by a combined eight points.
• Madisen Parker has made a total of 224 three-point field goals in her career, good for fourth place on that BGSU list. Parker's next target is Tracy Pontius (2007-11), who hit 235 treys in her storied Falcon career.
• Hempfling has now started 106 career games at BGSU, tying her for ninth place on that BGSU list. Meanwhile, Parker has played in a total of 133 contests, and is now fourth in school history on that Falcon chart. Parker is just two games away from tying the school record in that category. If the current schedule does not change and she plays in each game, Parker would tie that BGSU record on Saturday (Feb. 5) at Ball State and break it next Wednesday (Feb. 9) vs. Northern Illinois at the Stroh.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE HUSKIES
• Northern Illinois is 8-10 on the season, and the Huskies are 5-5 in MAC play. NIU has won four of the last five games, including Monday night's 61-47 win at Western Michigan. The Huskies are 5-2 at home, 3-7 on the road and 0-1 at neutral sites to date. In MAC play, Northern is 2-2 in DeKalb and 3-3 in hostile venues.
• Chelby Koker leads the team in scoring, with 17.8 points per game, but has missed the last two games due to injury. A'Jah Davis and Janae Poisson have 15.9 and 12.8 ppg, respectively, and Davis has a team-leading 11.6 rebounds per game. Head coach Lisa Carlsen welcomed back 10 letterwinners, including all five starters, from a 2020-21 club that went 12-12 overall and 10-8 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead NIU, 24-20, in the all-time series, but the Huskies have captured the last seven meetings. Last season, Northern picked up a 78-71 win at the Stroh Center (Jan. 9, 2021) and a wild, 79-78 triumph in DeKalb (Feb. 2, 2021). BGSU's last win was a 58-43 decision six years ago (Jan. 20, 2016) at the NIU Convocation Center. BGSU is 14-9 in home games, 9-11 in road contests and 1-0 in neutral-site affairs vs. the Huskies over the years.

• Following the NIU trip, the Falcons will face Ball State on Saturday (Feb. 5) in Muncie. That game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. in Worthen Arena.
• Then, the Brown and Orange will face NIU for the second-straight Wednesday (Feb. 9), hosting the Huskies in a 7:00 p.m. matchup at the Stroh. The schedule currently calls for BGSU to play 10 games, including six on the road, during February. Barring any (more) schedule changes, BG's upcoming schedule is as follows...
