BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team shot over 50 percent in every quarter Monday night (Feb. 14), recording a 94-61 win over Miami University. The Mid-American Conference game was held at the Stroh Center.
Five players scored in double digits for the Falcons (12-10, 7-6 MAC), with sophomore Nyla Hampton scoring a season-high 16 points to lead the way. Junior Elissa Brett added 15 and senior Kadie Hempfling 14, with freshmen Zoe Miller and Amy Velasco adding 11 apiece.
BGSU shot a Stroh Center-record 59.7% from the floor in the win.

In addition to BGSU's five double-figure scorers, sophomore Kenzie Lewis had nine points on perfect 4-for-4 shooting. Lewis flirted with a quadruple-double, as she had eight assists, seven rebounds and six steals to lead all players in all three categories.
BG scored just four points in the game's first five-plus minutes, but ended the first quarter on a 15-2 run to take a double-digit lead. The Falcons outscored the RedHawks in every quarter, leading by 19 points at the half and 25 points after 30 minutes.
Eight Falcons scored six or more points, as senior Madisen Parker had seven and sophomore Sophie Dziekan six. The Falcons had advantages of 52-40 in points in the paint, 27-11 in points off turnovers and 35-10 in bench scoring, and BGSU had 25 assists on 37 baskets.
The home team went 11-of-20 (55%) from three-point range, with Hempfling going 4-for-6 from the arc.
BGSU's total of 94 points on Monday night was the Falcons' highest output in a MAC game in 13 years (minus one day), since a 94-79 win over Central Michigan at venerable Anderson Arena on Feb. 15, 2009.
BG made just 1-of-7 shots in the first five minutes on Monday, but the Falcons shot 65.5% (36-of-55) over the final 35 minutes of play.
NOTE OF THE NIGHT
• The Falcons, as mentioned, set a Stroh Center record by shooting 59.7% from the field in Monday night's win. The old record was set in the first year of the building's existence.
• That record, a 58.7% shooting night, was set by Baylor on March 18, 2012. The Bears defeated UC Santa Barbara at the Stroh Center in the NCAA Championships first round. Led by Brittney Griner, that Baylor team went 40-0 and won the national championship.
BONUS NOTE OF THE NIGHT
• BGSU defeated Northern Illinois, 81-52, at the Stroh last Wednesday (Feb. 9). The 29-point margin of victory was the largest in a home MAC game in the Robyn Fralick Era.
• That record lasted five days – until the next home game – as the Falcons topped Miami by 33 points on Monday night.
QUOTING COACH FRALICK
"It was a great team win tonight. We saw great 'team-ness' on both ends of the floor, and we had a lot of kids impact the game. I thought we were locked in. It was a quick turnaround, so we just went over a few simple things that we needed to do well, and I thought our kids did a great job of locking into that."
FIRST QUARTER
• The Falcons scored 94 points on Monday night, but BGSU went without a point for almost three minutes to start the game. Amy Velasco's layup at the 7:04 mark of the opening period answered Ivy Wolf's free throws and tied the score. But, Wolf scored four more points to give the visitors a 6-2 lead.
• The BGSU side of the scoreboard was stuck at "2" for just over four minutes, until Nyla Hampton hit a pair of shots at the stripe. Hampton then took an Elissa Brett pass and knocked down a corner three, but the RedHawks responded with a pair of buckets to take a 10-7 lead at the first media timeout, which came with just 3:18 left in the period.
• BG scored immediately out of that timeout, and the Falcons would score 15 points over that final 3:18. Kenzie Lewis lobbed the ball inside to Zoe Miller for a layup, and after a Lewis free throw, Kadie Hempfling's cross-court pass resulted in a Madisen Parker three-pointer that gave the Falcons the lead for good.
• Lewis fed Miller for another layup, and a Lewis steal led to Velasco's driving layup and a 17-10 Falcon lead as the RedHawks used a timeout.
• MU's Tajah Foster-Walker scored to stop a 10-0 BGSU run, but Miller kicked the ball out to Hempfling for a three-ball from the right win, and Velasco's charity tosses with 22.4 seconds on the clock enabled the Falcons to end the period on a 15-2 run.
SECOND QUARTER
• Brett found Hampton for a three-pointer to begin the second-quarter scoring, before the teams traded buckets for the next two-plus minutes. BGSU got layups from Miller, Velasco and Hampton in that time, but the RedHawks answered at the other end, with Edyn Battle's driving layup cutting the BG lead to 31-20.
• Sophie Dziekan's layup, though, began a 7-0 run for the hosts, as Hampton hit a pull-up jumper and Lewis found Hempfling for a three-pointer and a 38-20 lead midway through the period.
• And, after Foster-Walker scored inside, Lewis found Brett for a wide-open layup, then a left-side three-pointer. When Lewis drove inside herself and knocked down a shot in the paint, BGSU had a 12-2 run and a 45-22 lead as MU used another timeout.
• The lead was still 23 points before back-to-back hoops by the 'Hawks cut the BG advantage to 47-28 at the intermission.
THIRD QUARTER
• The teams traded points over the first three minutes of the second half, with Brett scoring six-straight BGSU points, but Battle answering with six points for the RedHawks in that time.
• But, a pair of and-one baskets extended the Falcons' lead. First, Parker knocked down a corner three in front of an appreciative BG bench, completing the four-point play with a free throw. Then, just over 30 seconds later, Hampton hit a driving 'and-1' layup, making the ensuing shot from the line. Brett scored in the paint, prompting a Miami timeout at the 5:37 mark.
• A Peyton Scott three-pointer snapped a 9-0 run for the Falcons, but several minutes later, Lewis fed Velasco for a three-pointer, and Lewis then came up with a steal and fired a pass ahead to Hempfling for a transition layup and a 69-43 BG lead with 2:20 to go in the period.
• Then, after the Falcons nearly turned the ball over on the final possession of the quarter, Brett found Hempfling for a buzzer-beating corner three, giving the Brown and Orange a 75-50 advantage after 30 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
• The lead increased to 30 points as Dziekan scored inside and Hampton found Hempfling for another corner three. After a nifty offensive rebound and putback by Dziekan, a pull-up jumper by Lewis gave BGSU a 32-point lead with 6:40 to go.
• The margin never dropped below 30 points again. Lewis, Miller and Jocelyn Tate all hit layups in the final four minutes, and Morgan Sharps capped the scoring with a three-pointer off of a Dziekan pass. The final 33-point margin was BGSU's largest of the game.
