THE OPENING TIP – STREAKS, STORYLINES AND SIDEBARS
• The Falcons set a Stroh Center record in Monday's (Feb. 14) 94-61 win over Miami. BGSU shot 59.7% from the field in the victory, a new arena mark for field-goal pct. in a game. The old mark of 58.7% was set by Baylor on March 18, 2012, as the eventual national champs beat UC Santa Barbara in the NCAA tourney's first round.
• The Falcons' 33-point margin of victory against the RedHawks was BGSU's largest home win over a MAC opponent in the Robyn Fralick Era. The 'old' record had been set in BG's previous home game, a 29-point win (81-52) over Northern Illinois five days earlier.
• BGSU's total of 94 points on Monday night was the Falcons' highest output in a MAC game in 13 years (minus one day), since a 94-79 win over Central Michigan inside venerable Anderson Arena (Feb. 15, 2009).
• Five players scored in double figures for the Falcons against Miami while a sixth, Kenzie Lewis, flirted with a quadruple-double vs. the RedHawks. Lewis had nine points on perfect 4-for-4 shooting, and also posted game-high totals of eight assists, seven rebounds and six steals to lead all players in all three categories.
• BGSU began the night by making just one of seven shots from the field vs. the RedHawks. Then, however, the Falcons went 16-of-18 (88.9%) during a dizzying 11-minute stretch. During that time, BG went from trailing by two points (6-4) to leading by 23 (45-22).
• For what it's worth, BGSU is now 8-2 in weekday games this season. The Falcons are 6-1 in such contests during MAC play (2-0 on Monday and 4-1 on Wednesday), and BG has won six-straight weekday games.
• BGSU is 21-10 in MAC regular-season games since the start of the 2020-21 season, after going 8-46 in the previous three seasons (2017-18 to '19-20). That 21-10 record includes a 13-4 mark at the Stroh and an 8-6 ledger in league road games.
• Madisen Parker recently broke a school record, as she played in her 136th career game as a Falcon on Feb. 9 vs. NIU. Parker has now appeared in 138 total games, breaking the mark of 135. That record had been shared by Tracy Pontius, Lauren Prochaska and Jen Uhl, all of whom played from 2007-11.
• Parker is moving up another BGSU career list. She has made a total of 230 three-point field goals in her career, good for fourth place on that BGSU chart. Parker's next target is Tracy Pontius (2007-11), who hit 235 treys in her storied Falcon career.
• The Falcons have set arena records for shooting in each of the last two home games. BG shot 63.6% from three-point range in the win over NIU. BGSU went 14-for-22 from the arc, and broke the old mark of 57.9% (11-of-19), set by the Falcons on Nov. 29, 2011, vs. Western Kentucky.
• As a team, the Falcons have made at least one three-point field goal in 541 consecutive games over the last 17 years. That is the fifth-longest active streak in the nation.
• Kadie Hempfling has now started 111 career games at BGSU, and ranks seventh on that school list. She has a shot to move into the top-five in school history in that category by the end of the regular season.
• Hempfling is also ranked on the BGSU career lists for scoring (25th), rebounding (11th), assists (sixth) and three-pointers made (T-20th). Parker has broken into the top 40 on the BG career scoring chart, and currently ranks 38th.
• Entering Wednesday's game, Morgan Sharps leads the MAC – and is fifth in the nation – in three-point field-goal percentage. She has hit 46.4% of her long-distance shots this season.
• BGSU is scheduled to play a lot of games during the year's shortest month. The Falcons are slated to play 10 games in a 25-day span during February. Saturday's Toledo game began a stretch of six contests in just 12 days.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE BRONCOS
• Western Michigan is 13-9 on the season, and the Broncos have a 7-6 record in MAC play. WMU snapped a three-game losing streak with an 80-73 win on the road over the MAC preseason favorite, Ohio, Saturday (Feb. 12). The Broncos are 5-4 at home and 8-5 on the road this season to date. In conference play, WMU is 2-4 in Kalamazoo and 5-2 at hostile venues.
• Lauren Ross leads the team in scoring, with 19.5 points per game, while Reilly Jacobson (12.3 ppg) and Taylor Williams 11.3 ppg, a team-high 8.8 rebounds per contest) join her in double figures. Head coach Shane Clipfell welcomed back 12 letterwinners, including all five starters, from a 2020-21 club that went 6-15 overall and 5-15 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
• The Falcons lead Western Michigan, 39-35, in the all-time series, and BGSU has captured the last three meetings. BG posted a 67-51 win in this year's first matchup, at the Stroh (Jan. 26, 2022). Last season, the Falcons picked up a 73-48 win in Kalamazoo (Jan. 6, 2021) and a 77-53 victory at the Stroh three weeks later (Jan. 27, 2021). Prior to that, the Broncos had won two-straight meetings and 12 of 13 matchups with the Orange and Brown. BGSU is 21-14 in home games, 15-20 in road contests and 3-1 in neutral-site affairs vs. Western over the years.
• More information on the BGSU-WMU series can be found on page 22 of the PDF.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the WMU game, the Falcons will return home to face Ohio on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 19), and it will be Senior Day at the Stroh. Tipoff will be at 1:00 p.m. The Ohio contest will be BG's fourth contest in a stretch of six games in 12 days.
