BGSU Women's Golf Set For Rio Verde Invitational This Weekend

RIO VERDE, Ari. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will return to the course this weekend for their second spring event of the 2021-22 season, competing in the Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, Ariz. The three-day event will begin on Feb. 25 and span the entirety of the weekend. This will mark the first stroke-play style tournament of the spring for BGSU after hosting the Mid-American Match Play Challenge earlier this month.
The Rio Verde Invitational Field
The Falcons will be one of 18 teams competing in the Rio Verde Invitational this weekend. In addition to Bowling Green, the Mid-American Conference will be represented by host Western Michigan as well as Akron, Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Ohio. The rest of the field will include Bradley, Butler, California Baptist, Illinois State, Kennesaw State, Loyola, Missouri State, Oakland, South Dakota, Wichita State and Xavier.

The Rio Verde Invitational Field

- After winning the Cardinal Classic this past fall, Kayla Davis continued a strong season at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge. Davis went 4-0 in her matches, being one of just two golfers over the course of the event to go 4-0.
- MacKenzie Moore ended the Mid-American Match Play Challenge on a high note, going 2-0 during the second day of competition, including winning her final match with five holes still left to play.
- Nichole Cox has been strong in this format for the Falcons this year, averaging a score below 78 per round. She posted a season-best 72 during the second round of both the Redbird Invitational as well as the Bearkat Invitational this past fall.
- Aly Kovach started the Mid-American Match Play Challenge strong, winning her first two matchups of the event.
- Kelsey Sager will be teeing it up for the first time this spring for the Falcons. Sager ended her fall campaign on a high-note with a season-best score of 233 over the course of the three-day Rocket Classic Invitational.
Falcon Facts
- The Falcons last competed in the Rio Verde Invitational during the 2019-20 season, traveling to Arizona on Feb. 21-23 for the event. Kayla Davis, Nichole Cox and Aly Kovach were all part of the BGSU team that competed that season and will return to the event this weekend.
- The last time Bowling Green played in the Rio Verde Invitational it was Davis that posted the best round and event scores for the Falcons. Davis began with a score of 75 in the first round and ended the tournament with a score of 230, tying for 34th.
- Bowling Green's last tournament in this format came back in October at the Rocket Classic Invitational. BGSU finished sixth in that event with a team score of 940.
