Senior Sharps-Shooter Earns Honor After Third-Quarter Outburst in Win at WSU
Bowling Green State University women's basketball standout Morgan Sharps has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office on Tuesday morning (Dec. 19).
Sharps earns the MAC weekly honor for the first time in her Falcon career.
Sharps, a native of Granville, Ohio (Newark), led all players in scoring in BGSU's lone game last week, and fell just short of tying a school record in the process. Sharps had a game-high 19 points in the Falcons' 69-48 win over Wright State last Tuesday (Dec. 12), and tied her career high with seven rebounds.
Sharps went 5-for-7 from three-point range against the Raiders. She had 16 points in the third quarter alone, just one shy of the school record for points in a quarter. That scoring outburst included 13 points in the last 2:48 of the quarter, as she scored on five consecutive BGSU possessions. The last of those points came on a three-pointer in the final seconds of the period.
On the season, Sharps is averaging 13.5 points per game, and she is shooting nearly 50 percent (.464, 13-of-28) from three-point range.
Tuesday's award is the Falcons' first MAC Player-of-the-Week accolade in over four years, since Dec. 10, 2019. Since that time, the Falcons have an overall record of 80-51. In the last three-plus seasons, BGSU is 75-33 (.694) and 38-18 (.679) against the MAC, with one conference regular-season title and three national postseason appearances.
The Falcons are 6-2 on the year, heading into a home game against the number-one team in the country, South Carolina, on Tuesday night (Dec. 19). Tipoff is set for shortly after 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center.
