Falcons Land 12 on Academic All-MAC Team
December 06, 2023 | Women's Soccer
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team was well-represented, to say the least, when the Mid-American Conference office announced the Academic All-MAC Team. The Falcons had 12 student-athletes named to the team.
BGSU's lengthy list of honorees includes Lili Berg, Rylee Clark, Katie Cox, Lexi Czerwien, Maya Dean, Jaden Frigerio, Brynn Gardner, Emilie Gardner, Isabelle Gilmore, Makenzie Ortman, Jayna Searles and Madison Vukas.
Berg and Cox each were named to the team for the fourth consecutive season, while both Dean and Ortman have been so honored for the third time. Clark, Frigerio, Emilie Gardner and Gilmore have been chosen to the team for the second-straight season.
A total of 129 student-athletes were named to the team. Bowling Green's total of 12 honorees was tied for the second highest among MAC schools.
A total of 16Â student-athletes named to the team had a perfect 4.000 cumulative GPA at the time of nomination. BGSUÂ led the way with six of those 16 student-athletes -- Berg, Czerwien, Dean, Frigerio, Gilmore and Searles. Ball State and Ohio each had three players with a 4.00 GPA, while no other school had more than one.
The Academic All-MAC honor is bestowed upon student-athletes who have excelled in both athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. Freshmen are not eligible for the award.
BGSU finished the 2023 season with an overall record of 10-6-2, and the Falcons went 8-1-2 in MAC play to place second in the 12-team conference. BGSU has advanced to at least the semifinal round of the MAC Tournament in each of the last seven seasons.
The Falcons, who won four-straight MAC regular-season and tournament titles from 2018-21, have a record of 47-8-6 (.820) in league regular-season play since the start of the 2018 season, which is by far the best mark of any conference school.
