Falcons Return Home for Midweek Matchups with Miami

Defending MAC champions come to town for Tuesday single game, Wednesday DH

SETTING THE SCENE
• The Bowling Green State University softball team returns to Meserve Field for a midweek series vs. the defending Mid-American Conference champions. Head coach Candace Fenton-Bockbrader and the Falcons face Miami University in a three-game series, beginning with Tuesday's (April 11) 3:00 p.m. contest. Then, the Falcons and RedHawks will play a Wednesday (April 12) doubleheader, with first pitch of the first game set for 1:00 p.m.
FOLLOW THE FALCONS
• Tuesday's game will be televised in the Toledo area on BCSN2, and also will be available on the BCSN Now App as well as on ESPN+.
• There will be an audio broadcast for all three games courtesy BG Falcon Media, with Jaydon Romero providing play-by-play.

FUN FALCON FACTS
• The series is a rematch of the 2022 MAC Tournament's championship game. The Falcons dropped last season's tourney opener to top-seeded Miami in Oxford, then defeated both Ohio and Central Michigan to advance to the championship contest vs. those same RedHawks.
• Fenton-Bockbrader and assistant coaches Erinn Gankosky and Jacob Jeffries welcomed back 13 returning letterwinners from last year's club. The 2022 Falcons went 34-21 (.618) overall and 16-11 (.593) in MAC play, good for fourth place in the 11-team league.
• Sophie Weber leads the 2023 Falcons at the plate, with a .352 batting average to date. Weber also leads the Falcons with 32 hits, nine doubles, three homers, 50 total bases, a .410 on-base percentage and a .549 slugging pct.
• Marti Henkel is hitting an even .300 in limited action, with Delaney Davis and Reagan Williamson batting .276 and .264, respectively. Williamson has a team-high 13 walks, while Davis leads the Falcons with 16 runs scored and is second behind Williamson in walks, with 11.
• Peyton Dolejs has a BG-best eight multiple-hit games, while Weber has seven, Davis six and Makailah Dees five.
• Williamson has reached base in each of her last six games.
• Henkel is batting .364 in games she has started.
• Henkel is hitting a team-leading .333 in MAC games, with Wynnie Reid batting .304 and Davis .300 against league foes.
• Hannah Davies has thrown a team-high 71 innings this year, and also leads BG pitchers in appearances (17), stars (10), complete games (four) and strikeouts (51). Davies has a 5.52 ERA this season to date.
• Sydney Stepp has an ERA of 5.36, while Scarlet Anderson has a team-best five wins and a 5.71 ERA. Anderson is second on the team with 16 appearances and nine starts in the circle for the Orange and Brown.
THE OPPONENT / THE SERIES
• Miami enters the week with an overall record of 20-14, and the RedHawks are 8-6 in MAC action after sweeping a three-game series from visiting Buffalo over the weekend. Miami has won six of the last seven games. Individually, Kate Kobayashi is hitting a team-high .348, with Karli Spaid and Allie Cummins batting .333 and .330, respectively. Cummins has 12 homers on the season, while Spaid has 11 homers and a team-high 31 RBI. In the circle, Brianna Pratt is 14-8 with a 3.45 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 138 innings. Both Taylor Turner and Laurelai DePew are 3-3. Head coach Kirin Kumar's club went 40-17-1 overall and 24-5 in the league last spring.
• BGSU trails Miami, 62-57, in the all-time series, and the RedHawks took two of three games in last year's regular-season series in Oxford. In the series opener, the Falcons were down to their last out before getting three-straight singles, then a Peyton Dolejs grand slam in the top of the seventh inning, en route to a 4-2 win. The RedHawks responded with a pair of shutout victories the following day. The RedHawks' last visit to field saw MU capture three contests in a four-game series late in the 2021 season.

• Following the Miami matchups, the Falcons return to the road for three games against Akron this weekend. The teams are slated to play a Saturday (April 15) doubleheader and a Sunday single game, with all three games scheduled to be streamed on ESPN+.
