Davis Named MAC Sportswoman of the Year as Falcons Conclude Season at MAC Championship

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team placed ninth at the 2023 Mid-American Conference (MAC) to conclude the season. Kayla Davis led the BGSU effort, finishing tied for second and winning the MAC's Sportswoman of the Year, as voted on by all the competitors at the Championship.
The 2023 MAC Championship was hosted by Western Michigan at the par-72, 6,011-yard Kalamazoo Country Club. BGSU had the best team score in round two with a 304 but shot 325 in round one and 324 in round three to finish in ninth places.
Davis (70-72-77-219, +3) led all individuals through two rounds at -2 but shot a 77 in the final round to finished tied for second. It is the best individual finish by a Falcon since Patricia Holt (+11) also came in second in the 2015 Championship. Davis also broke her own record for lowest score in a MAC Championship. Last year she shot a 223 (+7).
Olivia Steen finished tied for No. 38 after shooting +27, Aly Kovach finished tied for No. 43 at +32 and Emily Pantig-Nystrom finished No. 46 at +33. Savannah Wyrick and Averi Mickelson shared the final spot in the BGSU lineup. In MAC Championship play, you have ability to play a sub. Averi Mickelson shot an 87 (+15) on Friday and Savannah Wyrick shot a 165 (+21) over the final two rounds.

• Davis broke the BGSU single-season average mark with a 75.4 scoring average per round. She broke the previous record set by current BGSU head coach Erin Fahey (75.48) during the 2017-18 season.
• Davis shot a 219, which is the third-best 54-hole score in program history.
• Davis broke her own record for lowest MAC Championship score in BGSU history at 219 (+3).
• Davis was second in the tournament at par-5 scoring at -3 and second in par-4 scoring at +4.
• Davis led the tournament with 11 birdies.
