FUN FALCON FACTS
• Fenton-Bockbrader and assistant coaches Erinn Gankosky and Jacob Jeffries welcomed back 13 letterwinners from last year's club. The 2022 Falcons went 34-21 (.618) overall and 16-11 (.593) in MAC play, good for fourth place in the 11-team league.
• Sophie Weber leads the 2023 Falcons at the plate, with a .327 batting average to date. Weber is riding a four-game hit streak, and batted .500 (4-for-8) in the Falcons' weekend series with Ball State
• In addition to batting average, Weber also leads the Falcons in hits (37), doubles (10), homers (three), runs batted in (18), total bases (58), slugging percentage (.513) and on-base pct. (.392).
• Peyton Dolejs is hitting .265 on the year. Dolejs has had at least one hit in six of the last seven games, having gone 8-for-19 in that time. She has reached base in seven-straight contests, and has raised her seasonal batting average 30 points during that stretch.
• Dolejs leads the Falcons with 18 runs scored, along with at-bats (117) and triples (four). She is second on the club in hits (31), extra-base hits (nine), total bases (46) and and RBI (13 - tied for second). Dolejs and Weber are the only two Falcons to have seen action in all 41 games this season.
• The Falcons had three triples in Saturday's second game vs. Ball State, with Dolejs, Weber and Wynnie Reid each picking up a three-base hit. It marked the first time in over 14 years (since April 4, 2009, vs. NIU) that BGSU had three triples in a game.
• BGSU single-game records are incomplete, but the total of three triples is believed to tie a school record. Since the start of the 1997 season, BG has had three triples in a game on four occasions. In addition to 2009 vs. NIU and Saturday vs. BSU, the other two games came less than a month apart in 1998; on March 27 vs. Marshall and April 22 (exactly 25 years prior to Saturday) against Cleveland State.
• Dolejs tripled again on Sunday, for her fourth three-base hit of the year. She is the first Falcon with four triples in a season in 13 years (since Susan Sontag also had four in the 2010 campaign). No Falcon has had more than four triples in a season since Melissa West had five in 2009.
• Marti Henkel is batting .257, with Reid batting .244 and Katie Hutter .241. Delaney Davis paces the Falcons with seven stolen bases and is second in runs scored, with 16.
• Dolejs has a BG-best 10 multiple-hit games, while Weber has eight, Davis six and Makailah Dees five. Reid is hitting a team-leading .310 in MAC games to date.
• In the circle, Hannah Davies has thrown a team-high 91 2/3 innings this year, and also leads BG pitchers in appearances (22), starts (15), complete games (six) and strikeouts (66). Davies has a 6.26 ERA this season.
• Sydney Stepp has an ERA of 6.17, while Scarlet Anderson has a team-best five wins and a 7.00 ERA. Anderson is second on the team with 18 appearances in the circle, while Stepp and Mackenzie Krafcik each have pitched in 15 games. Stepp has made 11 starts and Anderson nine for the Orange and Brown.
THE OPPONENT / THE SERIES
• Central Michigan brings an overall record of 24-19 into the week, and the Chippewas are part of a three-way tie for first place in the MAC with a 14-6 conference record. The Chippewas have won eight-straight games entering Tuesday's contest. Michaleigh Vallimont is hitting .400 and Abbey Tolmie .392 for the Chippewas, while Kelsey Alexander is batting .341 with team-leading totals of nine homers and 29 RBI. In the circle, Kaitlyn Bean and Grace Lehto have combined to start 40 of CMU's 43 games. Bean is 9-6 with a team-low 3.64 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 99 innings. Lehto is 11-10 with a 3.89 ERA, and has whiffed 147 hitters in 136-plus innings. Head coach McCall Salmon and her staff welcomed back 18 of 20 letterwinners from last year's team that went 27-26 overall and 17-11 in the MAC.
• The Falcons trail Central Michigan, 78-29, in the all-time series, but BGSU captured all three of last season's meetings. The Falcons swept a twinbill at Meserve Field last May 4, winning by scores of 3-1 and 5-0. Then, nine days later, the Orange and Brown picked up a 1-0 win in the MAC Tournament, on a seventh-inning homer by Reagan Williamson. BGSU and CMU have not met in Mount Pleasant since the 2017 season, when the Chippewas won two of three games.
