May 11, 2023 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Todd Simon announced the signing of Marcus Hill on Thursday evening (May 11). Hill, a 6-foot-4 guard, will join the Falcons after playing the last two seasons at Southern Union State Community College in Alabama. A native of Rockford, Ill., Hill led the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in points scored with 780, shooting 49.7 percent from the field. He was named a NJCAA Third Team All-American and was ranked the 32nd best prospect overall in Junior College by JUCORecruiting.com.Â
"Marcus is a dynamic guard that can get to the rim, score at all three levels and push the tempo offensively," said Simon. "His vision and passing will help our up-tempo system create points. His competitiveness will bring the intensity up every day. We are elated to have him be a Falcon."
During the 2022-23 season, Hill was one of three players to start all 31 games for Southern Union and tallied double-digit points in every game. Hill averaged a team-high 26 points per game, which was third in the nation, and 10 made field goals per game. He recorded 25 games with at least 20 points, nine games with at least 30 points and scored a season-high 43 against Snead State, including a 12-game streak of scoring at least 20 points per game. Hill also shot 72.2 percent from the free throw line, ranking sixth in the nation for free throws made with 164. On top of the scoring outputs, Hill averaged 7.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
As for the 2021-22 campaign, Hill appeared in the final 13 games for Southern Union, making 12 starts. Despite the limited time, Hill still managed to record 11 double-digit scoring games, six games with at least 20 points and a season-high 37 against Wallace State. He finished the season averaging a team-high 20.5 points per game while shooting 50.8 percent from the field along with 6.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.Â
Hill is the sixth player to sign with the Falcons this offseason, joining guard P.J. Edwards from UCF, center Jason Spurgin from Southern Utah, guard Trey Thomas from Vanderbilt, guard DaJion Humphrey from Garden City CC and guard Da'Shawn Phillip from Maryland Eastern Shore. Â
