Cubbison, Haintz, Neal named first-team All-MAC; Richard and 4x400 relay team earn second-team
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference has announced its end-of-year awards for outdoor track and field, with eight Falcons garnering All-MAC accolades after a historic weekend in Akron. The Falcons won four individual titles, the most at a single MAC Championship in school history. Three of those were in throwing events, marking the first time in program history Bowling Green has won three throwing titles at a MAC Championship. The Falcons totaled 91 points, the most since 1999, to finish fourth in the team standings, the highest since 1998.
All-MAC first team: Zaresha Neal, Senior (Shot Put and Discus)
Zaresha Neal continued her dominant 2023 campaign by adding two more MAC titles to her collection. After winning the shot put at the MAC Indoor Championship, she earned MAC Field Athlete of the Week five times during the outdoor season. Entering the weekend as the top seed in the discus and shot put, she took care of business in both events, winning the shot put with a mark of 52-9.75 (16.10m), then the discus with a throw of 174-8.00 (53.23m). This is her first career outdoor title in the shot put and second consecutive title in the discus. The senior has five total MAC titles, with this marking her third career All-MAC first team honor.
All-MAC first team: Kylee Cubbison (1500)
Kylee Cubbison entered the weekend as the No. 3 seed in the 1500, which is where she finished during the prelims to qualify for the finals. In the final, the freshman maintained her position in sixth-place through the first half of the race, then climbed to fourth entering the final lap. Over the final 200 meters, Cubbison passed multiple runners and beat Miami's Annie Christie by 0.23 seconds to finish with a PR of 4:26.88, earning Bowling Green's first MAC title in the 1500 since 1989.
All-MAC first team: Mateya Haintz, Senior (Hammer Throw)
Mateya Haintz competed in the hammer throw as a Falcon for the first time this season and immediately etched her name in the record book, earning a MAC title and ranking fourth in school history. Her fourth attempt at the MAC Championship saw her record a winning mark of 197-1.00 (60.08m), the best in her BGSU career. This ranks her fourth in school history and notches Bowling Green's sixth MAC title in the hammer throw in the last 10 MAC Championships. Haintz and Neal combined for three throwing titles, the most in program history.
All-MAC second team: Brianna Richard, Senior (Triple Jump)
Brianna Richard capped her final MAC Championship with a runner-up performance in the triple jump, leaping 42-2.25 (12.86m) on her second attempt, just 0.01m shy of her PR. It is the sixth-best mark in school history and gives the senior four of the top nine marks in program history. She ranks second in school history, trailing only fellow MAC Champion Huina Han. Richard has compiled eight podium efforts in her career, including two MAC titles and six top-five performances.
All-MAC second team: Darian Braddix, DaMya Barker, Tianna Mulligan, Jemeila Hunter (4x400 Relay)
In the final event of the weekend, the 4x400 relay team of Darian Braddix, DaMya Barker, Tianna Mulligan, and Jemeila Hunter entered as the third seed. The quartet eclipsed their seed, running a blistering 3:41.57 to finish second. This also ranks them second in school history in the event, marking the first time any of the four have entered the record book for the 4x400 relay. This is the third time Braddix has earned All-MAC honors as a member of a relay team, with the previous two being the 2022 and 2023 MAC Indoor Champion Distance Medley Relay teams. Hunter has now earned second-team All-MAC honors twice, with the first coming with her runner-up effort in the 200 at the 2021 Indoor Championship. Hunter has compiled five podium performances in her career, including a fifth-place finish in the 200 at this year's Outdoor Championship. Joining her on the podium for that event was Mulligan, who placed seventh. This is Mulligan's first career All-MAC honor. It is also freshman DaMya Barker's first All-MAC honor.
