LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team will hit the road Saturday (Nov. 23) for the first of three consecutive road games, taking on Bellarmine. The Falcons and Knights are scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip inside Knights Hall. Bowling Green is coming off a win over Niagara and looking for their first road win of the season. The game will be available to stream for fans on ESPN+.

This will mark the first trip for the Falcons to Knights Hall in program history. The game against Bellarmine will be the first of three consecutive road games for the Falcons, heading to the Arizona Tip Off next weekend for a pair of games. Javontae Campbell enters the game with 14 steals on the season, ranking second in the MAC and tied for 10th in the nation. Additionally, Marcus Johnson enters with back-to-back 20-point games and leads the MAC in scoring.
A Bowling Green Win Would…
Simon Nearing Career Milestone
Bowling Green head coach Todd Simon is currently drawing closer to a career milestone. Simon is sitting with 149 career wins as a head coach, needing one more to reach 150 at the collegiate ranks. For Simon, he would become the eighth-youngest active head coach with 150 wins. He's also one of 15 coaches currently with four-consecutive 20-win seasons, capturing 20 last year with BGSU after three-straight at Southern Utah. Going back to the start of the 2020-21 season, Simon has tallied 87 wins with a .659 winning percentage.
Scouting The Nights
Bellarmine is still seeking their first win of the season, off to an 0-5 start. So far, they've faced off with VCU, VMI, Southern Indiana, Marshall and Louisville. Bellarmine came close to a win against Southern Indiana with a 71-69 final, coming up short due to a buzzer-beater in the game. The Knights came close against VMI as well with a 76-71 final. The close contests against VMI and Southern Indiana are the only two home games the Knights have had prior to hosting BGSU on Saturday.
BGSU vs. Bellarmine, All-Time
The Falcons and Knights met for the first time last season at the Stroh Center with Bellarmine picking up an 85-67 final. For Bowling Green among the returners this year, DaJion Humphrey led the way in last year's contest. Humphrey tallied 12 points with a pair of rebounds and an assist. Sam Towns added two points and five rebounds. Trey Thomas, Greg Spurgin and Jamai Felt didn't appear in the game. A win for Bowling Green would give BGSU wins over 266 different opponents in program history.
Marcus Johnson Stays Hot
After having a breakout performance against Michigan State, scoring 23 points on the Spartans, Marcus Johnson gave quite the encore. Johnson followed up his 23-point game with a 24-point outing against Niagara. Against the Purple Eagles, Johnson went 10-of-11 from the field, shooting 90.9-percent from the field. Johnson is now the only Falcon to have double-digit points in each game so far this season. His 19.8 points per game leads the MAC and his 99 total points are tied for 37th in the nation. Johnson also ranks first in the MAC and is tied for 27th in the nation for made field goals this season with 37.
Falcons At The Free Throw Line
Bowling Green has been strong at the free throw line this season, especially over the last two games. The Falcons went 13-of-14 against Michigan State, shooting 92.9-percent at the line. The Orange and Brown followed it up with a 9-for-10 night against Niagara, marking the first time since at least the 2000-01 season, according to available records, BGSU shot 90% in back-to-back games. Last year, the Falcons shot 90% or better from the line twice all season. BGSU's season percentage is now up to 77.8-percent at the line, ranking second in the MAC behind only Akron (79.2%) and 40th in the nation.
Campbell Swiping Steals
Javontae Campbell has been active on the defensive end this year for the Falcons, amassing 14 steals through the first five games. The total for Campbell has him tied for 10th in the nation and second in the MAC behind only CMU's Anthony Pritchard with a nation-leading 17. Campbell is currently averaging 2.8 steals per contest, ranking third in the MAC and tied for 28th in the nation. Campbell is currently on pace for 86 steals this year. The program's single season steals record is 82 set by DeMar Moore in 1996-97.
