Falcons To Host Rival Rockets In Battle Of I-75 Tuesday At Stroh

Fans Can Show “I Voted” Sticker For Free Admission
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team returns to the Stroh Center Tuesday night (Nov. 5), hosting the Toledo Rockets for a 6 p.m. first serve. The match will mark the second leg of this season's Battle of I-75 with the first match being a 3-2 win for the Falcons on Oct. 1, doing so in reverse sweep fashion. The match will be an Orange Wave for the Falcons with fans asked to wear Orange to the Stroh.
At The Match
With Tuesday being Election Day, fans can present their "I Voted" sticker to the ticket office and receive free admission to the match. It will also be an Orange Wave with BGSU fans asked to wear orange in support of the Falcons.
MAC Tournament Scenarios
Heading into the week, the Falcons are in position to potentially clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament. Sitting atop the MAC standings, Bowling Green has a three-step process to clinching a spot on Tuesday (Nov. 5) with tiebreakers in play. In addition to a BGSU win, the Falcons would also need an Eastern Michigan loss to Central Michigan as well as an Ohio loss to Kent State. With five matches left on the schedule, Bowling Green is currently first in the MAC. The top seed in the MAC Tournament will host the full duration of tournament play.
First Serve
Taking On Toledo
Since the last meeting between Bowling Green and Toledo, the Rockets have registered a 6-4 record. After falling in five sets to the Falcons, Toledo also had a five-set loss to Ohio before topping the Bobcats in four sets. BGSU tallied wins over Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Akron before being swept by Buffalo on Oct. 18. Toledo rejoined the win column with a pair of victories over Miami (OH), but are now coming off two 3-0 losses to Western Michigan this past weekend. The 8-5 MAC record has dropped Toledo to sixth in the MAC standings.
BGSU v. Toledo, The Last Time
The Falcons and Rockets met earlier this season on Oct. 1 at Savage Arena in Toledo. Toledo took the first two sets, but the Falcons roared back for a reverse sweep, taking the match in five sets. Lauryn Hovey tallied a double-double for the Falcons with 12 kills and a team-leading 17 digs. Mia Tyler added a team-high 17 kills followed by 12 for Edyta Waclawczyk and 10 from Alexis Mettille. As for digs, Lindsey LaPinta registered 15 with Sydnie Hernandez logging 13 and Avery Anders registering 12. Amanda Otten set the attack with 53 assists to go along with six kills.
Otten Closes In On 1,000 Assists
Amanda Otten is nearing a career milestone with the Falcons, closing in on 1,000 career assists. After logging 85 assists over the weekend, Otten needs just five to reach the milestone, currently with 995 over her BGSU career. Against Miami (OH), Otten registered at least 40 assists in both matches, finishing Friday's (Nov. 1) four-set match with 45 before tallying 40 over three sets on Saturday (Nov. 2). For the weekend in total, Otten averaged 12.14 assists per set.
Mettille Enters Top 10 In Nation
Alexis Mettille had an efficient weekend against Miami (OH), landing 15 kills on 22 error-free attacks for a weekend hitting percentage of .682. The weekend performance raised Mettille's season hitting percentage to an impressive mark of .427. With that, Mettille not only leads the Mid-American Conference in the stat, but has entered the Top 10 in the nation, currently sitting in ninth. The nation's leader is currently Shea Rubright from San Diego State, hitting .469 on the season. Of the players above Mettille on the national leaderboard, only three are from outside the Power 5 conferences.
Falcons On The Attack
Bowling Green has been efficient on the attack as of late, registered two matches with a .300 hitting percentage or better in the last three contests. After hitting a season-best .337 against Kent State on Oct. 26, the Falcons followed it up with a .321 mark against Miami (OH) on Nov. 1, marking the third time during MAC play BGSU has hit .300 or better. The first time was on Sept. 28 against Ball State with a .305 hitting percentage. For the season, Bowling Green is hitting .236, which ranks second in the MAC. However, during conference play only the Falcons are hitting a MAC-leading .275.

- The Falcons moved up to 21st in the nation for total blocks (232) and are now 23rd for blocks per set (2.64).
- Individually, Alexis Mettille is now inside the Top 10 in the nation for hitting percentage, ranking ninth with a mark of .427 for the season.
- Lauryn Hovey broke into the Top 20 in the nation for total aces, landing 44 which is tied for 19th. Hovey is just outside the Top 20 for aces per set, ranking 21st with an average of 0.50.
- Jessica Andrews rounds out the list of Falcons inside the Top 50 nationally, being tied for 36th in total blocks with 110.
- Mettille and Andrews have both entered the Top 10 during the program's Rally Scoring Era for career block assists, but now Hovey is nearing the list as well. Hovey, currently with 220, needs one more to enter the list with Mettille ranking fourth with 281 and Andrews seventh with 266.
